Actor Gang Dong-won transformed into a full-fledged 'dance machine' for the first time since his debut, promising a shocking turn in comedy acting. From a blunt bob haircut to an oversized ribbon style, his visuals have changed in every way he wanted, raising expectations.
On the 7th, a production briefing for the film Wild Sing was held at Lotte Cinema at Konkuk University Station in Seoul. In attendance were Gang Dong-won, Um Tae-goo, Park Ji-hyun, Oh Jung-se, and director Son Jae-gon.
In the film, Gang Dong-won plays Hyun Woo, the leader of Triangle and the self-proclaimed D.M (dance machine) Hyun Woo. He was once a star who dominated the b-boy scene and even ranked first on music shows, but after the group's breakup he drifts through the entertainment industry to make a living amid low recognition.
Especially, Gang Dong-won's appearance in Triangle's recently released music video Love is caused a huge sensation immediately after its release. His long blunt hairstyle, flashy outfits and bold accessories presented a visual completely different from his usual image, surprising viewers.
Above all, Gang Dong-won reportedly underwent five months of intensive choreography training for this project. Choreographer Yang Wook, who was in charge of the choreography, praised him, saying, "There were a lot of moves to master, but he prepared meticulously over a long period to bring realism," and director Son Jae-gon also said, "Every director must have imagined Gang Dong-won as the lead at least once," adding, "He actively contributed ideas for the music, choreography and styling, raising the film's level of completion."
Gang Dong-won himself did not hide his affection for the project. He said, "I have always liked the comedy genre the most," and "The script was so funny, and I especially liked that it was a tightly closed ending rather than an open ending." He also revealed what he felt while preparing for the idol role. Gang Dong-won said, "While preparing for the project and watching idols, I thought, 'They must really always be tired,'" adding, "After filming this project I respect them even more."
Previously, Gang Dong-won left a strong impression with the "Boombastic dance" in the film Detective Complement. This time he transforms into the leader of a mixed-gender idol group, foreshadowing the birth of another comic character. Wild Sing is a comedy film about the three-member mixed-gender dance group Triangle, which once swept the music scene, disbanding after an unexpected incident and dreaming of a comeback 20 years later; it is scheduled to be released in June.
