My Royal Nemesis star Jang Seung-jo signaled the birth of a new villainous character that surpasses his previous role in As You Stood By.
On the afternoon of the 7th, at the SBS building in Mok-dong, Yangcheon District, Seoul, a production press conference was held for the new Friday-Saturday drama My Royal Nemesis (directed by Han Tae-seop, written by Kang Hyun-joo). The press conference began with MC Park Kyung-rim and was attended by director Han Tae-seop and actors Lim Ji-yeon, Heo Nam-jun, Jang Seung-jo, Kim Min-seok, and Lee Se-hee, who discussed the work.
My Royal Nemesis is a romantic comedy drama like an explosive war between rookie actress Shin Seo-ri, who becomes wicked after being possessed by the soul of a notorious Joseon-era villainess, and Cha Se-gye, an evil chaebol called a monster born of capitalism, and it is scheduled to premiere on the 8th.
That day Jang Seung-jo introduced his character, saying, "Choi Moon-do is the president of Cha Il Construction and Cha Se-gye's paternal fifth cousin. He is an ambitious man with the ambition to acquire Cha Il Group."
Jang Seung-jo transformed into a chilling villain in his previous work As You Stood By, making viewers shudder. While expectations are high as he again plays a villain in this work, when asked whether he could surpass his previous role, Jang Seung-jo confidently replied, "Yes." He went on to say about the new villainous points in this work, "I was in that position too, so while reading the script I wondered what other aspects I could show, and I thought I wanted to do this project."
Jang Seung-jo added, "Because the character is different, I thought he would appear differently, and I thought he was a restrained character. I portrayed him as someone who cannot even laugh out loud. Shall we call it the birth of another evil? I prepared diligently."
Meanwhile, SBS' My Royal Nemesis will premiere at 9 p.m. on the 8th.
