Recently dominating both home screens and movie theaters are the MBC drama 'Perfect Crown', the film 'Salmokji: Whispering Water', and the drama 'Marble of God'. These popular works, each with different genres and themes, share one thing that has drawn industry attention. It is the postproduction work of global content group Westworld (Westworld).
Westworld has emerged as an unsung hero of this year's hits by demonstrating detailed DI (digital intermediate/color grading) skills that complete the emotional tone and atmosphere characteristic of each genre, from romance to horror to large-scale historical epics.
First, in the currently popular 'Perfect Crown', Westworld visually and convincingly realized the unique setting of the 'constitutional monarchy Korea'. In particular, it has been praised for subtly supporting the lead actor IU (Seong Hee-ju) 's cold charisma and Byeon Woo-seok (Ian Daegun)'s strong image with distinct tones and color palettes, enhancing the genre immersion of the work.
Starring Kim Hyeyoon, Lee Jong-won and Kim Jun Han, the box-office-running film 'Salmokji: Whispering Water' has surpassed 2.6 million viewers, showing the strength of the horror genre. Meanwhile, Westworld maximized the eerie atmosphere and visual suspense that are central to horror films through DI, delivering taut tension to audiences.
Starring Ahn Bo-hyun, Lee Sung-min and Soohyun, 'Marble of God' also underwent Westworld's touch. Officially invited to the 9th Canneseries International Series Festival, the work contains a grand narrative set in the Goryeo era. Westworld used color to realize the heavy weight and narrative density characteristic of period pieces, further elevating the work's completeness.
Kim Hyung-seok, head of Westworld who oversaw the work, said, "We now have infrastructure capable of responding to various platforms, not only theatrical films but also dramas and OTT originals," and noted, "We will continue to raise the completeness of various works by adding the colorist's sensibility."
Son Seung-hyun, CEO of Westworld, also said, "DI is an important process that goes beyond simply correcting color to complete the emotional and genre textures of a work," and added, "We will focus on increasing works' immersion based on postproduction technical capabilities across various genres."
