Actor Lee Seo-jin is taking on theater for the first time in 27 years since his debut, and it surprised people to learn that he will be the sole cast for all performances.
Lee Seo-jin will meet audiences in the play "Uncle Vanya," which runs from today (7th) through the 31st at LG Arts Center Seoul, LG SIGNATURE Hall. "Uncle Vanya" is a representative work of Russia's great writer Anton Chekhov and remains one of the classic masterpieces most frequently performed on stages around the world. It tells the story of ordinary characters whose lives are shaken when, at some point, they fall out of the orbit of daily life, including Vanya and Sonya, who devoted their lives to their homes, family and the order within them. The play is produced by LG Arts Center, and Son Sang-gyu, who earned recognition for both artistic quality and box office success with the play "The Lives of Others," directs and adapted it.
In the play, Lee Seo-jin portrays the protagonist Vanya, who, while voicing dissatisfaction and skepticism about life, retains affection for his family and a devotedness to his dreams.
Attention is focused on how Lee Seo-jin will depict the character's complex emotional line. Ahead of the first performance, Lee Seo-jin said through his agency, "Since March each day has been a series of tensions, but I think those aspects are the charm and delight that can be felt only on the theater stage. As I take on a new challenge as an actor, I will show my own 'Vanya.'"
