The group BTS will have a special meeting with the president of Mexico. Ahead of their concert, they were shown the courtesy of a head of state, once again proving their stature as a "global icon".
On the 6th (local time), Claudia Sheinbaum, president of Mexico, announced the news of BTS's visit to the presidential office herself at the regular press conference 'Mañanera'. Beyond a simple courtesy visit, she plans the unprecedented step of opening the presidential office balcony to greet local citizens, which has become a topic of interest.
President Sheinbaum praised BTS's music, saying it "always delivers messages of friendship and peace, and love," showing deep affection. Earlier, in January, she welcomed the confirmation of the concert as a "historic moment," and through this visit she once again demonstrated strong interest in the group.
BTS's visit is expected to have enormous economic ripple effects beyond simple cultural exchange. The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce estimated the concert would generate about $107.5 million (about 15.57 billion won) in economic impact. Because it is a concert that local young people have long awaited, the entire city is expected to enjoy a "BTS effect."
According to the global music streaming platform Spotify, Mexico is the fifth-largest market for K-pop consumption in the world.
In particular, BTS was named the most-streamed artist by local K-pop fans, and the group's fourth studio album, MAP OF THE SOUL : 7, was selected as the most-played K-pop album in Mexico. Additionally, "Dynamite" ranked as the most-streamed K-pop song locally, and BTS dominated the upper ranks of the charts, demonstrating unmatched influence. Notably, Mexico City was counted as the city in the world that listens to BTS's music the most, adding significance to this concert.
BTS will take the stage at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City for a total of three days, on the 7th and the 9th–10th.<
