A truly golden casting lineup has been born.
Nam Dong-hyub, who proved his unstoppable directorial skills with the film Handsome Guys, has begun full-scale filming on his next film Gardeners, which has finalized a dazzling lineup including Song Kang-ho and Koo Kyo-hwan.
On the 7th, distributor CJ ENM and production company HYBE Media Corp. said the film Gardeners energetically began shooting after completing a script reading attended by the main actors on Apr. 29.
Gardeners is a comedy about a civil servant who is a plant caretaker whose only hobby is growing plants, who joins forces with a neighborhood troublemaker and jumps into a special horticulture business, causing great chaos.
National actor Song Kang-ho plays Choi Young-il, a diligent civil servant and miraculous plant caretaker who can even revive dead plants, anchoring the story. Interest is already high in the new character that Song Kang-ho's uniquely dense craft will create. In addition, Koo Kyo-hwan, who emits a singular aura in every work, joins as Kim Mun-ho, a troublemaker who causes accidents just by breathing, marking his first pairing with Song Kang-ho. The fresh chemistry the two unpredictable-energy actors will present is expected to be the film's biggest draw.
Song Seungheon, active across film and television, takes on the role of Han Cheong-yong, a star who falls into ruin because of one incident, promising a shocking transformation; the short-hair change captured at the script reading was also striking. Lee Kwangsoo adds vitality to the narrative as Song Sajang, who works with Young-il, and Shin Hyun-been joins as Kang Mi-ae, who brings a subtle tension.
Also joining are solid actors such as Kim Byung-chul (as Yeom Byung-chul), Park Ju-hyun (as Jung Hae-ri), Lee Ji-hyun (as Bae Mi-hwa), and Kim Sung-kyun (as Superintendent Park). Veteran Woo Hyun and character actor Lim Won-hee respectively join as eupjang and county governor to complete a flawless feast of performances, and rising star Lee Jaein makes a special appearance as Young-il's daughter Choi Eun-soo to present a realistic father-daughter chemistry.
Director Nam Dong-hyub, who built an original directorial world with Handsome Guys, has joined forces with cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo, who realized overwhelming mise-en-scène in Parasite and Hard Hit, and the production capabilities of HYBE Media Corp., which has presented bold works such as 12.12: The Day and Harbin, are added, raising expectations for the birth of a well-made comedy that maximizes genre fun.
