The group Billlie returned armed with a firmer and renewed charm.
Billlie held a showcase to commemorate the release of their first full-length album 'the collective soul and unconscious: chapter two' at the SBS Prism Tower public hall in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 6th and talked about the new album.
Billlie, who had been loved as a "conceptual K-pop icon" by organically consolidation music and narrative, returned with a new song four months after the pre-release single 'cloud palace ~ false awakening' released in January.
Moon Sua said, "It is meaningful to be able to present our first full-length album since debut. As an album that wraps up past stories and signifies a new beginning, you will be able to see a more diversified Billlie," and Tsuki said, "It is an honor to be able to show many people the full-length album we prepared for a long time. While preparing, we also thought a lot about our early debut days. We will show a Billlie with more charm," she said.
The full-length album 'the collective soul and unconscious: chapter two', which Billlie is releasing for the first time since their debut, is an album that no longer hides the long-held anxieties. In this album Billlie reveals a firm attitude of protecting themselves without wavering even amid the pouring words, others' gazes and endlessly repeating external noise.
Haram explained of the new record, "The first full-length album is a uniquely narrative album presented for the first time in four years since the second mini album. I composed songs that will give energy when you feel weak, tired and exhausted."
Siyun cited "awareness" as the keyword of this album and answered, "In the end the answer seemed to be inside me, so the word awareness was the first that came to mind."
In particular Siyun, Moon Sua and Haram participated in the lyrics work to add sincerity, and renowned global producers provided backup support to raise the completeness.
The members said, "Because it is a full-length album we were very nervous about how we could best introduce ourselves to the public. The overall album participation was high, so our color is well revealed in the album," and added, "Because it is a message we deliver to the public, we wanted to express it in our own language, so we eagerly participated. Thanks to that the members put more sincerity into it and a good result came out."
The title track "ZAP" refers to a flashing shock; it is a song about the moment of blocking out pouring gossip and repeating external noise and fully returning to "the present me." Over intense yet rough beats, the members' bold vocals and distinctive rapping blend to complete a solid self that does not waver in any situation.
Soohyun said, "I still vividly remember the first time I heard the title track. I thought this is a song Billlie can really do well, and it seemed like a stage only we could show would come out. While preparing the stage, the members were excited preparing it," she said.
Haruna also added, "As soon as I heard it, it sounded like a Billlie song and the performance on stage immediately came to mind. I liked that a more intense and refined image was added on top of Billlie's existing color. Since it is a different genre from what we have done so far, it seemed we could try new performances."
Finally, Billlie said about the image they wanted to show with this album, "Musically I wanted to show that Billlie's spectrum is wider and larger than expected. I wanted to show that we can digest various genres in our own style. I wanted to convey the message to adopt an attitude of truly facing oneself," and expressed the hope, "It would be wonderful if people evaluated the music itself positively, saying 'I trust and listen to Billlie.'"
