Cabbage Your Life Park Sung-woong is delivering a deep aftertaste with narration endings.
KBS 2TV miniseries Cabbage Your Life (directed by Choi Yeon-soo, written by Song Jeong-rim and Wang Hye-ji) unfolds the story of city family Sung Tae-hoon (Park Sung-woong) abruptly plunged into the pristine yet fierce (?) area of Yeonriri, delivering laughter and healing. Sung Tae-hoon's narration that capped each episode condensed the drama's message and stimulated viewers' emotions.
#Episode 1: Sung Tae-hoon's return to farming that began like a bolt from the blue
Food conglomerate 'Matstory' director general Sung Tae-hoon was assigned to the Yeonriri branch and began country life overnight. He impulsively tried cabbage farming, but strong opposition from village head Im Ju-hyeong (Lee Seo-Hwan) made for an uncertain future. Over Sung Tae-hoon, soaked by a sudden splash in the middle of a wasteland, flowed the narration "Getting splashed in a place struck by a bolt from the blue, yeah, life can be like that. It can happen! But why does it have to be me!" which announced the bittersweet beginning of his return to farming and drew laughter.
#Episode 2: Between hope and anxiety, the Sung family wavering
Despite Im Ju-hyeong's sabotage, Sung Tae-hoon managed to sprout cabbage after strenuous efforts such as using cow manure instead of fertilizer. But joy was brief: news of the disappearance of his second son Sung Ji-sang (Seo Yun-hyeok) and youngest Sung Ji-gu (Yang Woo-hyeok) brought crisis. At the same time, his wife Cho Mi-ryeo (Lee Soo-kyung) showed symptoms of breathing difficulty in front of the women's association, heightening tension. Sung Tae-hoon's line "At that moment, I deluded myself that I had sprouted life in this land. It wasn't that I sprouted a cabbage shoot, it was that I had pushed the switch on a time bomb that would blow up my remaining life" symbolically expressed the moment when hope and anxiety intersected, leaving a strong impression.
#Episode 4: Fathers grappling vs. children kissing! Two generations' divergent choices
The conflict between Sung Tae-hoon and Im Ju-hyeong, who clashed at every turn, escalated into a physical fight. In contrast, Sung Tae-hoon's eldest son Sung Ji-cheon (Lee Jinwoo) and Im Ju-hyeong's daughter Im Bo-mi (Choi Gyu-ri) confirmed their feelings with an unexpected kiss, painting a romance full of excitement in Yeonriri style. The image of fathers grabbing each other's collars and children kissing on the same screen completed an extreme ending. Along with this, Sung Tae-hoon's narration "When cabbage grows, cabbage worms grow too. Nibbling at the leaves little by little, the creature prepares to become a butterfly" metaphorically depicted the conflict and change between parent and child generations, adding humor and resonance.
#Episode 6: Layers of truth revealed, Sung Tae-hoon's awakening moment
Sung Tae-hoon began to see both his public and private life shaken by repeated issues from his children, such as cabbage field sabotage and Sung Ji-cheon's withdrawal from medical school. He also learned that his wife Cho Mi-ryeo had been suffering from panic disorder, belatedly confronting the family's pain he had not known. It seemed he found a chance to stand up again with the help of Yeonriri residents, but company test results for cabbage seedlings were returned as 'unsuitable,' deepening the mystery. The confession "I didn't know anything. My wife's pain, my children's hearts, the true face of the company I devoted my life to" hinted at Sung Tae-hoon's remorse and awakening, raising curiosity about future developments.
The production team said, "Actor Park Sung-woong is an actor who can convincingly convey Sung Tae-hoon's emotions with his voice alone. The narration that closes each episode likewise maximizes the scene's aftertaste through Park Sung-woong's distinctive sense of rhythm and tempo control. His ability to swing between humor and gravity adds another layer, becoming an important axis that completes Yeonriri's unique sentiment."
