In October 2014, Shin Hae-chul was preparing an album after six years. However, a sudden health problem occurred. Shin Hae-chul immediately went to the hospital, was diagnosed with intestinal stenosis and taken to the operating table. The surgeon at the time left a puzzling remark: "The surgery went well and I also stitched the stomach a bit. Even at a buffet, he won't be able to eat more than two plates."
Lee Nak-jun added, "It would be fine if the intestinal stenosis surgery is done properly, but damage can occur during the restoration process. You need to suture or reinforce it, but the surgeon folded the side of the stomach inward and sutured it."
Lee Nak-jun also said, "This is absurd. If life is in danger, emergency surgery can be performed, but this is a cosmetic procedure. There is no case of doing it without consent." When Shin Hae-chul learned this, he angrily said, "Who did that surgery without permission?" but the surgeon joked that it was done for free.
After the surgery, Shin Hae-chul was discharged as scheduled. However, even after discharge he frequently visited the hospital. Because the pain did not subside, he was given narcotic painkillers. The surgeon pressed his abdomen a few times and dismissed it as nothing serious. In the early morning of the fifth day after the surgery, Shin Hae-chul returned to the hospital. Not only his abdomen but also his left chest was in pain. The surgeon said there was no abnormality on the electrocardiogram and prescribed only painkillers.
After finishing his consultation, Shin Hae-chul headed to the bathroom. His manager followed right behind and found Shin Hae-chul complaining he could not breathe. Shin Hae-chul lost consciousness and collapsed and did not wake up afterward.
The autopsy results were shocking. A perforated area was found in the pericardium. In addition, peritonitis, pericarditis and sepsis as a complication were also found. During the autopsy, glass was also found inside the pericardium. Le Chanwon said, "Even talking about it makes my anger rise."
