Actor Lee Byung-hun transforms into a warrior who departs for Tsushima Island, the stronghold of the wokou, in the new film Nambeol from the makers of Inside Men.
On the 5th, production company Hive Media Corp. issued an official statement saying Lee Byung-hun has been confirmed to appear in the hard-boiled KITA action Nambeol.
Nambeol is a film that tells the story of nine warriors of varying abilities and ranks who head to Tsushima Island to rescue prisoners kidnapped by the wokou. It is known to feature intense KITA action, drawing attention from the film industry.
Nambeol is expected to be the third collaboration between Lee Byung-hun and Hive Media Corp., following the films Inside Men and Director General of Namsan. Since both previous works were recognized for their box-office success and artistic quality, the reunion of Lee Byung-hun and Hive Media Corp. is expected to create another powerful synergy.
Lee Byung-hun plays Im Eok, the leader of the nine warriors. Im Eok is a warrior who has fought on countless battlefields. He leads a life-risking journey to rescue Koreans detained on Tsushima Island, guided by the cold-headed judgment and steadfast conviction he honed while facing life and death.
From the films No Other Choice, The Match, Concrete Utopia, Director General of Namsan, Inside Men, Masquerade, to the Netflix series Squid Game Season. Having shown limitless acting in each work, curiosity is piqued about what kind of performance Lee Byung-hun will deliver in Nambeol.
In addition, Nambeol is further anticipated as the first directorial work of cinematographer Lee Mo-gae, who showcased distinctive mise-en-scène in 12.12: The Day, Exhuma, Hunt, YADANG: The Snitch, and Emergency Declaration. Lee Mo-gae is a figure who has won the Baeksang Arts Awards film division art award at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards, the cinematography award at the 29th and 31st Blue Dragon Film Awards, and the cinematography and lighting awards at the 37th and 43rd Blue Dragon Film Awards. He plans to capture a grand narrative, intense action and striking visuals in Nambeol.
Production company Hive Media Corp. has consistently presented well-made works that combine entertainment and artistic quality, including Inside Men and Director General of Namsan, as well as 12.12: The Day, Harbin, Deliver Us from Evil, and the Disney+ original series Made In Korea.
