'Yumi's Cells season 3' Kim Go-eun, Kim Jaewon became a married couple as the wedding march played.
The TVING original 'Yumi's Cells season 3' (directed by Lee Sang-yeop, written by Song Jae-jung and Kim Kyung) released its final episodes 7-8 on the 4th, and lovers Yumi (portrayed by Kim Go-eun) and Sun-rok (portrayed by Kim Jaewon) held a wedding, delivering a completely sealed happy ending.
Including her relationship with Jenny (portrayed by Jeon Soyoung), Yumi and her cells, who did not want to suffer any more confusion because of Sun-rok, rejected Sun-rok's confession. Sun-rok was heartbroken, but unable to imagine Yumi marrying someone else, he found the courage again. Sun-rok's second confession, "No matter how much I think about it, I like you, writer. It's pathetic that I only realized it now, but I think I must have liked you from the beginning," made viewers' hearts flutter. Then Sun-rok's sincere "I think I'll regret it" moved Yumi's heart.
Lovers Yumi and Sun-rok were sweet. Their form of address was no longer "writer" but "noona." Sun-rok, who had set a rule forbidding physical contact within a 1 km radius of the publisher and the studio to avoid being found out, broke the rule on the first day of dating by using the weekend as an excuse to share a sweet kiss with Yumi at the studio. When their secret relationship ruined a trip just for the two of them, Sun-rok made a bombshell confession about dating Yumi to editor-in-chief Daeyong (portrayed by Jun Suk-ho). Sun-rok had no principle more important than Yumi.
Sun-rok proposed to Yumi. When Yumi asked how he could be so sure when they had known each other for less than a month and barely knew one another, Sun-rok replied that if he wasn't sure he wouldn't have come back to confess again. Sun-rok's claim that he was sure because it was the first time in his life brought excitement. Yumi's growth—realizing that no two loves are the same and that it is meaningless to apply past experiences to the value of love with a different person—left a deep impression. And with the cells' enthusiastic support, Yumi and Sun-rok's fully packed happy ending as they held their wedding made viewers who had cried and laughed while supporting Yumi's love and growth smile.
Yumi's Cells season 3, which returned after four years, has recorded first place for three consecutive weeks in weekly paid subscriber contribution, marking a TVING mega IP-level hit. Episode 7, which aired on tvN, also ranked first in its time slot among cable and generalist channels. (Nielsen Korea paid platforms nationwide, same standard for the Seoul metropolitan area)
It is also hugely popular globally. As of the second week after release, it ranked first for two consecutive weeks on Rakuten Viki in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Oceania. It also achieved two consecutive weeks at number one on Mongolia's Inche TV, and ranked third for two consecutive weeks on Disney Plus Japan.
Trustworthy actress Kim Go-eun and rising young actor Kim Jaewon's heart-fluttering romance awakened viewers' romance cells. The magical chemistry of Kim Go-eun and Kim Jaewon raised heart rates, and the delightful, warm story of Yumi's growth delivered both fun and empathy. The performances of actors including Jun Suk-ho, Choi Daniel, Cho Hae-jung, Miram, Park Se-in and special appearances by Sung Ji-ru, Yoon Yoo-seon, Iyoo, and Hwang Chan-sung received praise. Above all, director Lee Sang-yeop's delicate direction and writers Song Jae-jung and Kim Kyung's excellent script lived up to expectations. Additionally, the cute and lively cells' activities and the voice actors' passionate performances enriched the drama further. A wedding poster showing Yumi and Sun-rok smiling brightly amid the cells' celebrations, who will forever support the two's happiness, was also released, deepening the afterglow of the happy ending.
