"This year's big hit project!". Actor Gang Dong-won, Um Tae-goo and Park Ji-hyun's shocking transformations raise expectations as the timeline for the new film "Wild Sing" has been revealed.
On the 5th, the film Wild Sing (director Son Jae-gon, distributed by Lotte Entertainment, produced by About Film) released a "this year's big hit project" timeline video.
Wild Sing, which opens on June 3, is a comedy about a once chart-topping three-member mixed-gender dance group called "Triangle" that was unexpectedly caught up in an incident and disbanded overnight, and now undertakes a reckless challenge to seize a chance at a comeback 20 years later. In particular, actors Gang Dong-won, Um Tae-goo and Park Ji-hyun have drawn strong interest with still cuts and teaser footage showing shocking transformations reminiscent of 1990s idols.
The released timeline video realistically captured Triangle's formation, from the dance-machine leader Hyun Woo (played by Gang Dong-won), the storm rapper and youngest member Sang-goo (played by Um Tae-goo), and the irresistibly charming center Do-mi (played by Park Ji-hyun), to choreography practice, recording sessions and onstage performances, attracting attention. The video shows Gang Dong-won, Um Tae-goo and Park Ji-hyun practicing choreography, cheering one another on and getting happy at small compliments, or getting flustered by mistakes yet unconsciously humming along to the song — preserving the set's cheerful energy.
Yet during monitoring moments, their serious expressions remind viewers that the three are actors. The flawless transformations that make it hard to tell whether they are singers, and the actors' meticulous preparation shown during serious monitoring, add realism beyond the film's setting and deepen immersion.
Above all, this video follows Triangle's song "Love is" music video, which created a big stir, and captivates with direction and editing that properly evoke nostalgic sentiments. Based on a retro 4:3 frame ratio, it reproduces the coarse texture typical of music programs or NG highlight reels of that era. Subtitles and designs that reflect the period's sensibility, such as "tension explosion" and "Hyun Woo mistake exposed!", further draw viewers into excessive immersion and multiply the viewing fun.
Moreover, the face-off between Triangle, which became a No. 1 contender upon releasing its second album, and another singer with the unprecedented record of 38 consecutive weeks at No. 2, the ballad prince Seong-gon (played by Oh Jung-se), combined with distinctive characters, promises nonstop laughter.
Meanwhile, the Wild Sing production team said the phrase "this year's big hit project" was "wording made by actor Park Ji-hyun herself." They said, "Park Ji-hyun picked 'this year's big hit project' as the keyword that best expresses Triangle, showing special affection for the team." Attention is focused on how Wild Sing and Triangle will capture audiences.
