A documentary retracing the acting life of actor Choi Bul-am left a deep impression.
The first broadcast of the MBC special 'Paha, Choi Bul-am' aired on the 5th.
That day's broadcast revealed his young years when he began acting at the Myeongdong Theater in 1955, evoking nostalgia. While working part-time at the National Theater Company, he was selected as an actor and grew into a figure representing the theater world of his time.
Reminiscences from fellow actors followed. Baek Il-seop recalled, "Anyone who liked theater knew Choi Bul-am," and Park Geun-hyung reminisced, "He was a handsome and stylish actor even from a man's perspective. I had never seen such a handsome man before."
The reason he later moved to KBS was also revealed. It was his relationship with his wife Kim Minja. He began acting at KBS in 1967 because of love, marking another turning point.
Testimonies from junior actors delivered an even deeper resonance. Jung Kyungho said, "He was there as if he lived on the set. I learned how to become a character," and Chae Sira evaluated, "The rhythm and presence that only the teacher had were extraordinary." In addition, Park Won-sook choked up, saying, "I don't know why I'm crying," and Lim Ho conveyed his acting philosophy, saying, "He taught us that acting is not something you do alone."
Although he did not appear on screen, the name 'Choi Bul-am' lives and breathes in the memories of countless actors. His acting life, which spanned an era, still remains in progress and moves viewers' hearts.
Meanwhile, the MBC special 'Paha, Choi Bul-am' is an autobiographical documentary in which the protagonist participated from the planning stage, illuminating his life and acting world within the flow of the times. However, according to the family's wish to focus on rehabilitation treatment, Choi Bul-am himself did not stand in front of the camera, but his message was fully reflected throughout the program.<
