Singer Eric Nam confessed the pain hidden behind his bright image and honestly revealed the reason he left Korea. He said he suffered panic disorder and paralysis symptoms, causing concern among fans.
Eric Nam appeared in a video titled 'Suddenly busking after meeting Eric Nam on the street' released on the YouTube channel 'JaykiOut'.
On the day, Eric Nam said, "I have a lot to do, I'm busy. When I open my eyes I always worry about what to do today," and shared his recent nonstop schedule.
In fact, Eric Nam said he was very busy even during his activities in Korea. He looked back on his past activities. He said, "I did various variety shows such as 'Law of the Jungle' and 'We Got Married', and I started acting the year before last," and added, "I appeared in a film starring Yoo Ji-tae and Kang So-ra, but it was not a K-pop star role."
But behind the 'bright Eric Nam' that everyone knew, there was an unexpected period of suffering. Eric Nam said, "Living in Korea, my mental health got much worse and my overall health collapsed," and confessed, "I felt a heavy burden to always appear bright, kind and funny. Inside, I was actually very exhausted."
He went on, "I was even afraid to sit and drink a cup of coffee. My health worsened to the point that I ate only porridge for three months," and revealed shocking symptoms, "I developed panic disorder and experienced paralysis in my arms and fingers, a herniated disk in my neck, and leg paralysis. One side of my face lost sensation."
When Jay said, "Eric Nam had the image of 'one Eric Nam per household'," he calmly replied, "I think that made it harder."
He has now returned to music. Eric Nam said, "While preparing the album I wrote about 80 songs, and this album's theme is 'loneliness'," and confessed, "I also worry a lot about the loneliness people feel. I suddenly felt lonely yesterday. It's because I'm always alone." He also said, "I travel alone without a manager or stylist and I have never stayed in one place for seven consecutive days. It feels like living on airplanes," describing his lonely life amid global activities.
At the end of the video, he also performed an impromptu busking. He said, "I once did a busking for just one person," and even though many fans had gathered, he sang sincerely, saying, "I don't have much prepared."
A long battle hidden behind the label of 'the nation's likable type', and now back on stage. Fans continue to send support following Eric Nam's candid confession.
