Actor Baek Seora recounted behind-the-scenes stories of the 'Doctor Shin' audition.
Recently, at the OSEN office located in Mapo-gu, Seoul, a wrap-up interview was held with Baek Seora, the lead actress of TV CHOSUN's weekend drama 'Doctor Shin.'
'Doctor Shin' is a medical thriller drama about a genius doctor who challenges the domain of gods and a woman whose brain is damaged overnight and loses her soul. In the work, Baek Seora plays Momo, a top-tier popular actress who had her brain damaged in an accident.
So far, writer Im Seong-han has been casting rookie actors whose names were not well known in leading roles. After working for a while with mid-career actors, writer Im Seong-han once again placed a rookie actor in a leading role, and even before the broadcast many people's attention was drawn to the newly emerged "Im Seong-han's Cinderella."
When asked about the audition situation when Baek Seora made her debut as a lead through 'Doctor Shin,' she said, "There were first and second auditions. After passing the first round, I took the second audition, and in the second one I climbed up through a tournament-style process for 10 hours to win a very precious role."
She recalled the audition site that lasted a full 10 hours, saying, "They kept having us go back and forth (with the roles). I tried the Bara role and the Momo role, and I think they wanted to feel how each would be. They seemed to want to see which fit better and what kind of tendencies we had, so they kept moving the script back and forth during the audition. Even at the end, until the writer specifically said 'which role you are,' neither I nor Ms. Se-bin from Sebin Co. knew who would play which role. And at the end, when all five of us were gathered, the writer said one by one, 'you are Momo, Bara, Jinju,' and then we understood."
Asked how she felt when she passed, she said, "I think the expression 'I was at a loss for words' fits best. In a way, I heard that competition was very fierce because it was writer Im Seong-han's audition. As the first and second rounds went on for a long time, before I could think 'Can I win this audition?' my main thought was 'let's do our best.' I tried not to be too greedy, to do the best I could and come away with no regrets. I am grateful that they seemed to view that favorably, I think." (Continued in interview 2.)<
