Singer Eric Nam confessed that his activities in Korea were difficult, and his successful recent situation in the United States is also drawing attention.
Recently, a video titled 'Suddenly busking after meeting Eric Nam on the street' was released on the YouTube channel 'JayK-Out.'
Regarding his current activities, he explained, "I'm doing a variety show in the United States called 'The Traitors.' It's a program like the mafia game, and last year it won six Emmys and appeared in a Super Bowl commercial." He added with surprise, "I heard senior Cha Seung-won will host the Korean version."
In particular, he said, "These days when I walk around the United States, even people who don't know K-pop recognize me," and added honestly, "I'm not saying this out of pride, but it's so amazing. I wonder how I got here." He added, "Just being able to do this job now is something I am grateful for and blessed to have."
When asked about his occupations, Eric Nam said, "MC, singer, businessman, roughly," and said, "There are many things I want to do. I'm preparing film production, and I want to gather Asian entertainers on an island and try content like a mafia game."
He also mentioned the elevated status of K-pop thanks to Psy, BTS and others, saying, "I wonder what more I can do for others," and expressed his belief, "There are not many Asian American stars. If we are more active, we can break down racism and stereotypes."
He also looked back on his activities in Korea. Eric Nam said, "I did various variety shows such as 'Law of the Jungle' and 'We Got Married,' and I started acting the year before last. I also filmed a movie that stars Yoo Ji-tae and Kang So-ra," he said. He then laughed and said, "I'm appearing in roles other than a K-pop star. Now I'm old enough for that. I was born in 1988."
But despite his bright image, there were hard times. He confessed, "While living in Korea my mental health worsened a lot and my overall health collapsed," saying, "There was a burden to always appear bright, kind and funny. In truth, I was very struggling inside." He revealed, "I developed panic disorder, and I had disc problems in my arm, fingers and neck, and even leg paralysis. I even lost sensation on one side of my face," which he said sadly.
He continues his music activities. Eric Nam said, "I'm currently preparing an album and have written about 80 songs," explaining, "This album is a story about 'loneliness.' The bright Eric Nam has become lonely." He continued, "People feel loneliness a lot, and so do I. I suddenly felt lonely yesterday. It's because I'm always alone," adding, "I travel without a manager or stylist, and I have never stayed in one place for seven consecutive days. It feels like living on a plane."
Regarding his future plans, he said, "It's fun when you accomplish what people say you can't do," and said, "Whether it's music or content, enjoying the process more than the result is important. If you like it, you can keep learning."
