'Salmokji' rewrites the history of Korean horror films.
'Salmokji' (provided/distributed by: ㈜SHOWBOX│produced by: The Lamp Co., Ltd.│director: Lee Sang-min) surpassed 2.6 million viewers, rising to become the third highest-grossing horror film in domestic box office history.
According to the integrated computer network of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), as of May 3 (Sun) 'Salmokji' surpassed 2.6 million viewers. With this, 'Salmokji' surpassed the representative 2002 horror film 'Phone' (estimated 2.6 million) and achieved the feat of rising to the third highest-grossing horror film in domestic box office history.
According to the film production company, it exceeded 2.6 million viewers just one day after reaching 2.4 million viewers, which is three times its break-even point.
'Salmokji' is a horror story in which an unidentified shape appears on a road view, and the filming crew, heading to the reservoir for reshoots, encounters something in the black, deep water. Actors Kim Hyeyoon, Lee Jong-won and Jang Da-a appear.
Breaking the box office formula that horror films only succeed in summer, it has led to word-of-mouth through "experiential horror." It remains to be seen whether it can even surpass the record of 'Gonjiam' (2.68 million), the second highest-grossing horror film in history.
