KOYOTE's Shin Ji and singer Moon Won overcome nationwide opposition and hold a wedding to become a married couple.
Shin Ji and Moon Won will ring the wedding march today (2nd) at Raum Art Center in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, with the blessings of family, relatives and acquaintances.
Earlier, Shin Ji first announced her marriage in June last year. At the time, interest surged when it was revealed that the groom-to-be was singer Moon Won, who is seven years younger, but a meeting video released later on a YouTube channel became the ember of controversy. When Moon Won confessed that he had been divorced and had a daughter with his ex-wife, public opinion cooled rapidly.
Shin Ji said she could "accept it because I love him," but long-time KOYOTE members Kim Jongmin and Baekga were taken aback. Afterwards, criticism over Moon Won's attitude, remarks and clothing at the meeting followed, and there was even public opinion described as "nationwide opposition."
The controversy spread to Moon Won's past record and private life allegations. Unverified claims about a stage name change, overseas activities and his school and military service years spread online, escalating the controversy.
In response, Shin Ji's side sought to verify the facts and officially explained that "all the raised allegations have been confirmed to be untrue." Shin Ji also directly stated on social media, "I checked all the allegations with the agency and confirmed they are not true. I will be more careful in the future."
However, there are still negative views toward Moon Won, and some people remain displeased with Moon Won and Shin Ji's marriage.
On the 24th, on KBS 2TV's Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant, Shin Ji said of Moon Won, "All work, such as performance congratulatory songs, stopped after the controversy." Moon Won also said, "I looked for what I could do and even worked at a logistics center and cleaned stairs," and "I couldn't just sit idle; I wanted to be of help." Everyone praised him, saying, "He is diligent," and Shin Ji said, "The members were worried, and when I said I went to clean, they said he is really diligent."
But after the broadcast, criticism arose again saying the implication that "he ended up doing logistics and cleaning because work stopped" sounded like belittling certain jobs.
Although the situation continued, Moon Won said, "It can't be helped. I will work as hard as needed to show those fans who love Shin Ji and are worried about her." Shin Ji comforted him, saying, "It's enough even now. Being visible to others isn't everything. There are things that people close to us feel," and, "I'm sufficiently proud, respectful and grateful. It's all over now. You endured well."
