The background behind the creation of singer-actor Choi Jin-young's debut song "Yeongwon" will be revealed.
Today (2) at 6:05 p.m., KBS2's 'Immortal Songs' episode 754 will present "Immortal Songs—lyricist·composer Joo Younghoon episode part 1," reexamining the musical world of the "original star composer" Joo Younghoon, who produced numerous mega hits across genres with an unmatched spectrum. Junior artists set to reinterpret his classics and draw attention include Kim Ki-tae, Sandeul, Soran, Son Seung-yeon X Jo Hyung-gyun, AIKI X Rihei X Hyojin Choi, Choi Jin-hyuk, Chae-yeon, NEXZ (Nexzi), Billlie, D82.
Among them, actor Choi Jin-hyuk draws attention by revealing his long-hidden dream of being a "rock singer." In fact, Choi Jin-hyuk is a born actor who won KBS's "Survival Star Audition" in 2006, a program that produced notable actors such as Kim Beom and Park Jae-jung, overcoming an astonishing 6,000-to-1 competition ratio. But Choi Jin-hyuk said, "Actually I came to Seoul because I wanted to do music," and added, "I liked rock and wanted to join the band club, but my mother threatened, 'I'll kill you,' so I gave up," provoking laughter.
That day Choi Jin-hyuk chose the song "Yeongwon," originally by actor-singer Choi Jin-young (SKY), and prepared the stage as a rock balladeer. At the start of the performance, Choi Jin-hyuk said, "It is also the third anniversary of the year my closest brother who used to sing this song with me passed away. I will show you a sincere performance," and his passionate singing moved the talk waiting room and the panel of classic-song judges to tears. It was reported that Choi Jin-hyuk also had red eyes backstage after finishing the stage. Attention is focused on his truly heartfelt rendition of "Yeongwon."
In particular, Joo Younghoon personally revealed the background to the birth of Choi Jin-young (SKY)'s "Yeongwon." Joo Younghoon, who participated as a lyricist on "Yeongwon," said, "At the time, the person who recommended me as a lyricist to Choi Jin-young's agency was actress Go So-young," arousing everyone's curiosity. In addition, behind-the-scenes stories of the birth of gems such as "Sarangseureowo," "Bimong," and "Don't give up" will be revealed one after another, raising anticipation for the Immortal Songs broadcast.
Meanwhile, "Yeongwon" was the debut song of singer Choi Jin-young, the only younger brother of the late Choi Jin-sil. He worked as an actor from 1990 and began his music career in earnest in 1999.
To step out of the halo of top-star sister Choi Jin-sil, he used the stage name SKY, and a music video featuring Jang Dongkeon and Cha In-pyo, which cost hundreds of millions of won, drew attention and helped his debut album sell more than 300,000 copies. Choi Jin-young, who truly hit the jackpot, also rose to the top of broadcast music shows with the title track rock ballad "Yeongwon."
Choi Jin-young was loved for his work as an actor and singer, but after his sister Choi Jin-sil's death, he suddenly passed away in March 2010, two years later, which drew sorrow.
