Japanese-born broadcaster Sayuri revealed that her mother received a letter of appreciation from the police for helping to catch a voice-phishing ring.
Sayuri wrote on the 1st, "Ten years ago my mother helped catch a voice-phishing criminal and received a letter of appreciation from the police," and posted a photo with the caption, "Someone called pretending to be my mother's biological older brother. My mother pretended to be fooled and handed the culprit fake money made of newspaper that the police had prepared. As a result, a fraud ring made up of six people was arrested."
The released photo contained an image of Sayuri's mother holding the letter of appreciation she received from the Japanese police. The letter of appreciation was officially presented to Sayuri's mother by the Japanese police in September 2016, and the message that drew attention read, "You promptly reported suspicious calls to the police and provided significant cooperation in the arrest of suspects in a special fraud case. We hereby express our deep gratitude."
Earlier, Sayuri surprised people by revealing that her mother was battling breast cancer.
Fortunately, after several rounds of chemotherapy her mother's condition improved and her hair grew back, showing a bright update. However, later her father was diagnosed with prostate cancer and began treatment, and Sayuri's father added, "He is gradually getting better. But he is undergoing two types of treatment (including radiation therapy)."
Sayuri received sperm from a Western donor through a Japanese sperm bank and gave birth to her son Zen in November 2020. She became a "voluntary single mother," which is prohibited in Korea, and drew significant public attention.
