Comedians Song Eun I and Kim Shin Young ended rumors of a rift after four years.
On the 312th episode of KBS2 variety show Problem Child in House season 2 (hereinafter "Problem Child in House"), which aired on the 30th of last month, Kim Shin Young, a born comedian who has experienced a second heyday due to a "yo-yo phenomenon," appeared and, along with Song Eun I, Kim Sook, Kim Jong Kook, Hong Jin Kyung, Yang Se Chan and Joo Woo Jae, engaged in a variety of quiz solving and savory talk. At the same time, "Problem Child in House" demonstrated the power of the top Thursday variety show by holding first place in its time slot with a nationwide rating of 3.3% according to ratings researcher Nielsen Korea.
That day, when Kim Shin Young opened the attic door and appeared, Song Eun I warmly called out "you're back!" with a pleasant smile. The two were swept up in unexpected rumors of a rift in 2022 when Kim Shin Young announced she was leaving the agency run by Song Eun I. The two candidly explained the circumstances, saying, "We have heard about the rumors of a rift." Kim Shin Young said, "The most absurd story was the rumor that there was a fistfight," adding, "I was upset, but I think I couldn't easily explain because I was worried it would cause misunderstandings." She continued, "The reason I left the agency was that I wanted to do the things I wanted to do. I also told senior Song Eun I, 'I want to see you for a long time as a senior, not as the agency head.'"
Song Eun I recalled the time when Kim Shin Young announced her independence, saying, "Honestly, I think I was a little sad. At the time, we were very united like family, so there was confusion about what to do going forward," she revealed. She added, "Looking back, I think I understand what Shin Young meant when she said, 'I want to see you for a long time, senior.' She confessed, "I stopped dieting but continue to abstain from alcohol. I'm ashamed because I'm bad when drunk. Kim Shin Young also spoke candidly about her struggle with panic disorder. She said, "When I turned 30 and was at my busiest, panic disorder came. My first panic attack happened on a plane. I couldn't ride elevators, and even at home I had to leave all the doors open. I underwent cognitive behavioral therapy and trained by taking the Namsan cable car six times every day. Accepting panic disorder and thinking of it like an uncomfortable friend that occasionally brushes by makes it much easier to accept. Now when I ride a plane I fall asleep," sharing how she overcame it. She also revealed an episode in which Song Eun I helped her: "On the plane to Melbourne, I had a panic attack. Senior Eun I took me to the aisle and stood with me, talking until we arrived. I realized that people cannot live alone," she said, expressing gratitude.
Finally, Song Eun I and Kim Sook shared their thoughts on appearing together on the show after four years. Kim Shin Young said, "Actually, I teared up in the middle. I wondered how senior Eun I hid her resentment," and Song Eun I also replied, "I got a little choked up too.
