NBC host Sarah Gore revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer and announced she would pause her activities.
Sarah Gore said on last Thursday's broadcast of New York Live, "I thought it was right to tell you directly. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and will be stepping away temporarily for treatment and surgery." She added frankly, "It would be a lie to say I'm not at all afraid."
She also mentioned her family history. Because her mother and younger sister had the same condition, she had thought it might one day happen to her, but when it became reality it was an unprepared moment. She said, "I knew I was in a high-risk group and thought this day would come someday, but you can never be ready," adding, "Even if you do everything right and detect it early, it's still an emotional shock."
In particular she confessed, "It was an emotion I was completely unprepared for. I was really shocked and it hurt a lot," and "This situation will hurt for a while, and it still hurts now." Even so, she expressed gratitude, saying, "I am where I need to be and under the care of excellent medical staff and my family."
She also expressed gratitude to her colleagues. She said, "Because of my coworkers I feel loved and supported," showing affection for her "workplace family."
Even amid the difficult situation she did not lose a positive attitude. Sarah Gore said, "I don't yet fully understand the meaning, but I want to believe there is some gift in this too," and, "It has already become an opportunity to remind me how precious life is and what is important."
Finally she promised, "I will come back stronger and see you again after getting through this time," and thanked viewers.
