'Problem Child in House' broadcaster Kim Sin-young honestly opened up about why she experienced yo-yo weight gain and how her attitude toward life has changed.
On the 30th episode of KBS2's Problem Child in House, Kim Sin-young directly explained why her weight increased again after a harsh diet in the past.
Kim Sin-young drew great attention when she lost a dramatic 44 kilograms in one year, going from 88kg to 44kg. After that, she maintained her weight for about 13 years and was cited as a representative case of a "maintenance eater."
But she said, "Now that I've gained weight again, my mind has actually become more at ease." The person mentioned as the turning point for that change was her mentor, the late Jeon Yu-seong. Kim Sin-young recalled, "I kept watch over the teacher's final moments and went to the crematorium, and seeing him left as a handful of ashes felt so meaningless," and added, "It was shocking that someone who had been a truly great elder to me had become so small."
She continued, "On the way back, the past 14 years came to mind. The times I said, 'I can't eat at this time' and endured again and again," and said, "I wondered whether that was truly the right way to live." In particular, one remark left by Jeon Yu-seong while he was ill changed her life.
Kim Sin-young said, "The teacher said, 'I really want to eat jjambbong but I can't eat it now.' Then he told me, 'You should eat whatever you want when you want to.'" She said this remark prompted her to change her standards for life. She added, "He always said, 'You must be happy; don't let anyone chase you. The end is the same anyway,'" and said, "I took that to heart."
Kim Sin-young shared her values, saying, "Now I think both being fat and being thin are all me. If I love myself as I am, that's a happy ending." Breaking away from extreme self-control, Kim Sin-young shifted toward a "life of accepting myself." It was a confession that reflected not just a simple yo-yo but a change in how she views life.
