Lee Jong-Hyuk of Radio Star caught attention by revealing the current status of his sons Tak-su and Jun-su.
On the 29th episode of MBC variety show Radio Star (hereinafter Ras), Lee Jong-Hyuk, Yoo Sun, Jeon Somi and Lee Dae Hwi appeared, and Lee Jong-Hyuk shared the recent news of his two rapidly grown sons.
That day Lee Jong-Hyuk revealed the recent status of his younger son Jun-su, who received much love on Dad, Where Are We Going?. He said "Recently he passed several universities. Sejong University, Seoul Institute of the Arts, Chung-Ang University," and added, "I told him to go where he wanted, and he went to Chung-Ang University's Department of Theater and Film."
Lee Jong-Hyuk graduated from the Seoul Institute of the Arts' Department of Theater and Film, and his eldest Tak-su attends Dongguk University's Department of Theater and Film while his younger son Jun-su attends Chung-Ang University's Department of Theater and Film. As the three are majoring in theater and film side by side, Lee Jong-Hyuk said, "It's fun."
When a rear view of the three wearing their respective school clothing was revealed, Lee Jong-Hyuk said, "That's Jun-su's school jacket. Doesn't it feel good? Originally the brothers were taking pictures together but I went in. 'Dad, don't you have any clothes?' so we ended up taking it," sharing the behind-the-scenes. He then bragged about Jun-su's university acceptance, saying, "The competition was really strong. He seems dependable."
Yoo Sun then shared an anecdote that made people laugh, saying, "Tak-su and Jun-su each came to watch the play separately. Tak-su politely and wittily said, 'I enjoyed the performance. Both of your acting was good.' But Jun-su brought about 20 friends from his acting academy and they said, 'Greeting to seniors.' I was surprised."
The hosts asked, "Which son has the stronger tolerance for alcohol?" Lee Jong-Hyuk replied, "We're going to have an alcohol battle," adding, "I beat the older one Tak-su. I had breakfast, but Tak-su didn't get to eat until evening."
Lee Jong-Hyuk, who said he drank as many as eight bottles combined with his eldest son, said, "Two bottles with red caps, then the rest, and there was no alcohol so we drank the makgeolli at home," adding, "Four acquaintances and I drank and lined up the bottles next to us. We drank 18 bottles in 30 minutes."
He jokingly added, "Jun-su sometimes comes home late and sleeps over, but since he's tall he seems to drink well. He starts by finishing one bottle before his friends. We're going to try it at home once. I'm looking forward to it."
Meanwhile, Lee Jong-Hyuk said Tak-su's rival and role model is BTS' V, noting, "In the neighborhood I drink beer and play billiards with V's father," which drew attention. When Kim Gu Ra mentioned whether he and V's father are karaoke best friends, he recalled, "If I ask, 'Brother, what should we sing today?' he says, 'Let's go with Cho Yong-pil.' He sings 30 Cho Yong-pil songs and then moves on to Lee Moon-sae."
Lee Jong-Hyuk added, "As we grew close, Tak-su says, 'I don't know what will happen to me either, don't be jealous.' He gives me confidence. He even put 'I will be dutiful' on his messenger profile. It shows he's decided, and I like that."
Above all, Lee Jong-Hyuk surprised viewers by revealing that Tak-su almost debuted as an idol. He said, "Suddenly in high school Tak-su said he wanted to take broadcast dance classes. I said I'd look into it, and within a week Starship contacted us."
He went on, "They asked if he was thinking about becoming an idol. They said it would be good for Tak-su to train professionally. It would save on academy fees and if things went well he could become an idol and act as well," saying that Tak-su lived as a Starship trainee.
Lee Jong-Hyuk confessed, "But our home was in Ilsan. It was too far from Gangnam, and when he wanted to rest on weekends the seniors would call him to prepare for end-of-month evaluations. His studies suffered, so he quit."
