A rapper who turned himself in for using drugs and was brought to trial, Sik-K, was given a suspended prison sentence again on appeal.
On the morning of the 30th, the 2-1 Criminal Appeals Division of the Seoul Western District Court dismissed the appeal and upheld the first-instance ruling at the appeals sentencing hearing for Sik-K, who is accused of violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics, etc. (marijuana) and other charges.
Earlier, the prosecution sought the same prison term of 3 years and 6 months as in the first trial at the appellate sentencing hearing.
The court said, "We gave this a lot of thought because recidivism rates for drug crimes like this are high. We considered whether it would be appropriate to punish more severely."
It added, "However, we concluded that maintaining the sentence as it is is appropriate," and emphasized to Sik-K, "You must be really careful from now on."
Meanwhile, Sik-K is accused of using ketamine and ecstasy in October 2023 and smoking and possessing marijuana in January of the following year. He approached a police officer who was on duty near Yongsan District in Seoul in January last year and confessed to using drugs, and in the first trial he was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a two-year suspension.
