As they reach their seventh year since debut, the group Cravity (CRAVITY) showcased a more mature and solidified cohesion after rebranding and changing their leadership structure.
Cravity recently held an interview to commemorate the release of their new mini album, mini album No. 8 "ReDeFINE," at Starship Entertainment's headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and talked about the album.
Cravity declared a rebrand with their previous full-length album No. 2 "Dare to Crave (Dare to Crave)," marking a major expansion of their musical worldview. Wonjin confessed that after the rebrand, "it felt like being reborn, so it felt even more like returning as rookies, and while practicing I kept feeling my heart burn," and added, "my affection for the team deepened, so I was able to prepare hard for this album as well."
In particular, during this period the leadership structure changed from Serim being the sole leader to Serim and Wonjin serving as co-leaders. Hyungjun mentioned a positive change, saying, "Even though the leader changed, nothing drastically changed within the team," and added, "in the past Serim hyung did it alone, but now Serim hyung, Wonjin hyung and I all lean on each other, ask for and convey opinions together, which is different." Minhee joked, "If there's one small change, it's that since there are two leaders now, something you'd hear once you hear twice," making the room burst into laughter. Serim also expressed gratitude toward the members, saying, "When something needed to be solved alone, thinking it over together with Wonjin and Hyungjun has eased the burden considerably."
Having passed their sixth debut anniversary, the so-called perilous seventh year with contract renewal season and members' military service approaching is slowly drawing near. Taeyoung showed a mature attitude, saying, "As we head into the seventh year, fans seem to be worrying a lot that it might be the end, and it has become a practical concern for us as well," and added, "rather than hiding this fear from fans and turning away, we wanted to express in this album the message that we will move forward and confront those emotions." On discussions about contract renewals, Wonjin said, "We once set a date and gathered to talk among ourselves," and added, "there may be unsettled feelings about re-signing, but we agreed that for now it makes sense to focus on the comeback we have to do, so we concentrated on the album."
In particular, Serim, born in March 1999 and the eldest, is likely to be the first in Cravity to enter military service. Regarding his military service plans, Serim calmly answered, "When the time comes I intend to do my defense duty to the best of my ability, but I haven't been worrying or thinking about it heavily already," and added, "when the time comes I'll go and come back well." He continued, "Almost all my ordinary friends have already completed their military service, and everyone tells me, 'You're made for the military so you'll surely be happy, you can work out, and because you had social experience from a young age you'll do well,'" and with a relaxed smile said, "I think I'll do well wherever I go and come back fine."
Jeongmo openly revealed a specific aspiration, saying, "I want to take the exam to go to the air force military police," and added, "I've always liked airplanes and aviation, so I wanted to go to the air force side, and among those I most want to be military police."
The affection for one another and tight bond also connect directly to their sincerity toward fans. For those who debuted during the COVID-19 period and were unable to meet fans in person for a long time, memories of offline performances are even more special. Serim recalled, "Before the first stage with an audience, I was so moved at the thought of seeing fans' faces from backstage that I cried my eyes out," and Woobin conveyed a moving anecdote, saying, "Watching Serim hyung sob on a stage with an audience, I thought, 'This job as a singer isn't something we make ourselves; the audience that supports us completes us.'"
As Taeyoung said, having spent a quarter of their lives together with the members, Cravity will continue an unwavering run, dreaming of eternity rather than an end.
