Actor Gang Dong-won plays Hyun Woo, the leader and dance machine of the mixed-gender dance group "Triangle" (provided/distributed by Lotte Entertainment | produced by About Film | director: Son Jae-gon, opens June 30) in the film Wild Thing, showing a surprising transformation.
Gang Dong-won surprised the entire nation and drew explosive reactions through the recently released music video for Triangle's "Love is(러브 이즈)." Wild Thing is a comedy about a once-dominant pop trio, Triangle, who swept the music scene but unexpectedly became embroiled in an incident and disbanded overnight, and who make a reckless attempt to seize a comeback opportunity that comes 20 years later.
In the film, Hyun Woo, who called himself D.M "dance machine" and dominated the b-boy scene with his signature infinite windmills and headspins, was the member who grabbed a No. 1 on music shows within a year of debuting with Triangle, but after the team broke up he now survives as a "livelihood machine," drifting through the broadcasting world with low name recognition. Gang Dong-won vividly portrays the character's shifts between a shining past and a weary present, creating another comic character that surpasses the slyness of A Violent Prosecutor and the sprightly comeback of Jeon Woo-chi.
According to the production team, Gang Dong-won underwent five months of intensive choreography training to sync with the "dance machine" Hyun Woo. Yang Wook, the choreographer responsible for the film's performances, said, "Although there was a considerable amount to cover, from breaking to hip-hop to Triangle's choreography, he added realism through meticulous long-term training. In particular, he performed difficult moves such as headspins stably, drawing admiration from all the staff." Director Son Jae-gon, who expressed affection for the actor by saying, "Every director has probably once imagined a project with Gang Dong-won as the lead," added, "He has a very accurate eye for the whole work. In particular, he actively contributed ideas on the film's music, choreography and overall style, raising the work's completeness."
