Actress Jeon Won-ju confessed she was diagnosed in the early stages of dementia, drawing sympathy.
On the 29th broadcast of TV CHOSUN 'PerfecT Life', Jeon Won-ju grants and shared her current condition and honest feelings.
That day Jeon Won-ju revisited the neighborhood she moved from 30 years ago and reflected on her long acting career. He laughed, "I have acted for 64 years, but because of my face I only played maid roles," recalling, "Still, I earned some money by filming commercials." He added, "People often don't recognize me, but when I laugh loudly they notice."
He also mentioned actor Yoo Hai Jin's neighborhood and said, "We look alike, so we once met as mother and son," drawing laughter, and continued his signature witty remarks, saying, "A person with protruding lips has a face that calls money."
She also showed determination about her health. Jeon Won-ju emphasized steady exercise, saying, "To live long and healthy you must move your body a lot. I will live to 100." But on that broadcast she also showed signs of forgetfulness by forgetting her bag and said she keeps habits of self-management such as writing her schedule on a calendar.
Above all, Jeon Won-ju honestly revealed her fear of dementia and her own situation. He said, "My closest friend developed dementia, and when I greeted her she said, 'Who are you?' I collapsed on the spot," and said, "Dementia is an unspeakable pain. Living is not really living. It's devastating." He then confessed, "I was diagnosed in the early stages of dementia a year ago," shocking viewers.
Co-star Lee Sung-mi also empathized, saying, "There are older sisters around me who suffer from dementia. When you meet them in person you think, 'How can they not know?' It's shocking," and added, "If I get dementia I worry my children will suffer. It's so sad that you may not even recognize your family."
