Singer Lee Chaeyeon recalled the distress over rumors of hair loss.
On the 29th on SBS PowerFM's 12 o'clock Joo Hyun-young, singers Lee Chaeyeon and Lee Ji-hoon appeared as guests and talked together.
During the show, Joo Hyun-young held a quiz based on interviews the two had done in the past. He asked as the very first question, "Singer Lee Chaeyeon said on a 2025 variety show that during her first Waterbomb performance while doing a wave this happened. What could this be?"
He then said, "Does it come to mind right away? She said this happened while doing a wave. I think you might know. Give a hint to Ji-hoon," and Lee Chaeyeon explained, "I'm not sure if this is the exact word. But while doing the wave, something hit my hair and I went, 'Oh my, what is this?'"
Lee Ji-hoon said in puzzlement, "I actually thought of a herniated disc," and Joo Hyun-young added the hint, "It's three syllables. Men also start worrying about this a lot after their 30s. It's related to the head."
Lee Ji-hoon asked, "Is it hair loss?" but the correct answer was "rumors of hair loss." When asked about what she had said on the broadcast at the time, Lee Chaeyeon confessed, "It's very embarrassing to talk about this again. For my first Waterbomb I prepared various things and carefully filled empty spots on my head with colored hair powder. But that powder all washed away in the water. So when I did the wave and my hair flipped back, my forehead looked really empty, and rumors of Lee Chaeyeon's hair loss spread. I panicked thinking I had to keep doing Waterbomb, so I immediately planted hair. I had 4,571 grafts implanted. It cost a fortune."
Joo Hyun-young said, "Chaeyeon, you really went through a lot. You must have been emotionally distressed. Because I'm actually embarrassed in situations like this too. When my hair is exposed during filming or I bow my head and suddenly someone says, 'Wait a moment,' and the hair staff surround me to quickly fill the crown or such with colored hair powder, it gets really embarrassing," expressing sympathy.
Lee Chaeyeon ruefully said, "Because it was my first time going out, I didn't know. I should have tied my hair neatly then. That's true." Joo Hyun-young asked, "Because actually letting hair flow on stage can be part of the choreography. Didn't anyone give you tips like, if you use colored hair powder it can run so make it waterproof?" and Lee Chaeyeon regretted, "As the eldest daughter I'm the type to do things myself. So I don't ask much. It was my mistake."
Joo Hyun-young said in surprise, "Your decisiveness is amazing. You went straight to the hospital and had 3,571 grafts implanted," and Lee Chaeyeon confessed, "I thought if not now, then when would I do it, so I just did it right away."
Hearing this, Joo Hyun-young said, "A person has to go through something big on a big stage like this. I also worried. I kept filling mine, but I don't know when I might be like this. It's a concern. If I ever end up like that later, would it be okay to contact you through my manager? Please introduce me to the clinic," she said, prompting laughter.
