Comedian Yang Sang-guk's heartfelt feelings toward his father evoke a lump in the throat.
Today (29th, Wed) at 8:45 p.m., the 341st episode of tvN You Quiz on the Block (directed by Heo Gang-seok and Kim Ji-young, writer Lee Un-ju) airs as a "most talked-about" special, featuring comedian Yang Sang-guk, who has risen to fame as the "prince of Gimhae." In addition to Yang Sang-guk, 14-year-old yo-yo champion Lee Kun-hee, who captivated the world with a single yo-yo, Agency for Defense Development (ADD) researchers Kim Hyo-chang and Ji Hyun-jin, and veterinarian Jin Se-rim, who rescued the wolf Gukgu, appear to share their stories.
Yang Sang-guk, known as the "prince of Gimhae" who drew attention for his uncanny resemblance to King Charles III of the United Kingdom, appears in princely attire and brings laughter from the start. Along with a special video message to Charles III, he showcases skits and talk segments and parades his catchphrases. In particular, when Yu Jae-seok said, "naturalness is good," Yang Sang-guk exploded in mock fury, saying, "you dressed me like this," adding to the laughter. He shares his feelings about becoming a trend, recounts the many twists and turns of his comedy career, and reveals the hardship of having no regular shows amid a packed schedule and an unexpected resolution.
He also mentions his father, who was a taxi driver, and recounts how his father, who had been battling a stroke for four years, tested positive for COVID-19 and passed away within a day. He recalls that, because of the effects of COVID-19 infection, they were unable to dress the deceased even in a burial suit at the time, and tearfully said, "It was his final journey, and my father was wrapped in a plastic bag," evoking sorrow.
Meanwhile, 14-year-old champion Lee Kun-hee, who captivated the world with a single yo-yo, appears on You Quiz. He will reveal the behind-the-scenes story of winning first place in the junior division at the Asia-Pacific Yo-Yo Open, which involved competitors from 18 countries. Lee Kun-hee says he enrolled in a yo-yo academy at age 11 as a hobby and, within two years, achieved runner-up at a world competition and became an Asian champion, revealing the secrets to his success.
The story of Agency for Defense Development (ADD) researchers Kim Hyo-chang and Ji Hyun-jin, who developed the domestic "Cheongung," adds interest. The two researchers, who have been developing weapon systems for more than 20 years, discuss the development story of the Cheongung-II, the "shield of the sky," which has drawn global attention amid Middle East conflicts, as well as the growth of Korea's defense industry and why K-defense products are attracting attention in the global market. You can also hear about the birth of Cheongung-II, which has drawn attention for its overwhelming hit rate as well as Korea-style "god value" and "rocket delivery."
You can also meet veterinarian Jin Se-rim, who captured the "people's wolf" Gukgu alive with a tranquilizer gun. Yu Jae-seok references the viral You Quiz mock appearance of Gukgu, saying, "In Korea's history, a wolf has never been like this," drawing laughter. Jin Se-rim, who was also noted as a "marksman with a tranquilizer gun," will reveal the current condition of Gukgu, who is recovering after nine days of adventure, as well as the behind-the-scenes of Gukgu's escape that shook Korea. In particular, she will recount the harrowing moment during the capture operation when a dump truck sped from behind a road, and say, "When I fired the (tranquilizer) gun and missed, I thought it was dead," describing how every moment was a turning point in the capture operation.
