Jeong Gyuri received a text from the "popular man" Park Woo-yeol but shed tears.
In episode 3 of Channel A's Heart Signal 5 (directed by Park Cheol-hwan, Kim Hong-gu), which aired at 10 p.m. on the 28th, the seven residents who moved into the "Signal House" — Park Woo-yeol, Kim Seong-min, Kim Seo-won, Jeong Jun-hyun, Kim Min-ju, Jeong Gyuri and Kang Yoo-kyung — went on an outing to Yeongjongdo, and the female residents chose the men's "life books" to pick their first official date partners.
On the morning of the third day after moving in, Jeong Gyuri called Park Woo-yeol and asked, "Can you make a fried egg?" But Kang Yoo-kyung appeared in the kitchen and took a place beside Park Woo-yeol, and because Kang Yoo-kyung believed that the person who had sent her a "text" the day before was Park Woo-yeol, she created an even friendlier mood with him. Jeong Gyuri stood behind them and hesitated while watching the two. After finishing their meal, the residents decided to go on an outing to Yeongjongdo for the first weekend. The female residents played "rock-paper-scissors" to choose the men's cars; the winner, Jeong Gyuri, who came in first, immediately got into Park Woo-yeol's car, with which he had "carpooled" the day before. Kang Yoo-kyung had secretly hoped for Park Woo-yeol's car but ended up in Jeong Jun-hyun's, the so-called "predatory man," and Kim Min-ju got into the car of Kim Seong-min, the "man of interest" who had sent a "text" the day before.
Park Woo-yeol teasingly asked Jeong Gyuri, who was in his car, "Did you get in knowing it was my car? Were you the first to choose it?" The two grew closer as they talked about their dating styles and work. Kang Yoo-kyung and Jeong Jun-hyun bonded over similar music tastes, and Kim Min-ju and Kim Seong-min raised their energy with continuous conversation. Shortly after, they gathered at a cafe on Yeongjongdo. There, Park Woo-yeol subtly bragged to everyone, "We didn't play music in the car at all. We just kept talking." Later he asked Jeong Gyuri, "Do you have lip balm?" borrowed it and applied it, and seeing this Kang Yoo-kyung bit her lip and showed an uncomfortable expression. Observing the peculiar dynamic among the three, entertainment commentator Kim Ina said, "(Park Woo-yeol) flipped the hearts of two women without touching them," and marveled at the charm of the "elegant fox" Park Woo-yeol.
At the restaurant, Kang Yoo-kyung confessed, "I'm not feeling well so I probably won't be able to eat much." Kim Seong-min immediately got up and said he would go buy medicine at a nearby convenience store, and fortunately Kang Yoo-kyung, who followed him, regained her smile after taking the antacid he picked out at the convenience store, and Kim Seong-min continued to look after her even after returning to the restaurant. On the other hand, when Kim Min-ju confirmed that Kim Seong-min was interested in Kang Yoo-kyung, she gave a bitter smile. Park Woo-yeol sat facing Jeong Gyuri and continued a private conversation. He asked, "What percentage are you at right now (intoxicated)?" When Jeong Gyuri answered, "0%," he said regretfully, "I wanted to see you get hyped from drinking." Seeing the sweet chemistry between the two, Kang Yoo-kyung said in a confessional interview, "Woo-yeol doesn't have interest in me. He went toward her (Jeong Gyuri)," expressing her disappointment.
Back at the "Signal House," for the first official date the female residents chose the "men's life books about love." Kim Min-ju, who won rock-paper-scissors, said, "I'll take the benefit of being able to date with two people, so you two choose books first." Jeong Gyuri picked the book she thought belonged to Park Woo-yeol, and Kang Yoo-kyung chose the book Jeong Gyuri guessed was Kim Seong-min's, saying, "It seems like Seong-min's book." Later, Kang Yoo-kyung had a one-on-one conversation with Kim Min-ju and confessed, "I felt like I drifted away from the person I'm interested in today. But Kim Seong-min took good care of me, so I suddenly became curious." When asked who her man of interest was, Kim Min-ju said, "Kim Seong-min," which surprised Kang Yoo-kyung.
At night, the residents sent their third round of "texts." After much deliberation, Kim Min-ju sent hers to Park Woo-yeol, not Kim Seong-min; as expected, Jeong Gyuri sent hers to Park Woo-yeol; and Kang Yoo-kyung sent hers to Kim Seong-min, who had looked after her that day rather than the distant Park Woo-yeol. Park Woo-yeol again sent a text to Jeong Gyuri from the day before; Kim Seong-min sent one to Kang Yoo-kyung; Kim Seo-won sent one to Kim Min-ju; and Jeong Jun-hyun sent one to Kang Yoo-kyung. But Kang Yoo-kyung was once again convinced that the text from Kim Seong-min was from Park Woo-yeol, and with that painful feeling eased, she smiled brightly. Meanwhile, Jeong Gyuri received Park Woo-yeol's "text" but appeared to struggle. She said, "I'm afraid I won't be able to control (my emotions)," and cried alone.
