Late rapper Jerry K is laid to rest.
The funeral rite for the late Jerry K will be held today (29) at Severance Hospital. The burial site is Gonggam arboretum.
According to the bereaved family on the 27th, Jerry K died on that day after about two years of fighting glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor. He was 42.
Music critic Kang Il-kwon posted Jerry K's obituary on his SNS and mourned, "I had heard he was fighting a brain tumor, but suddenness cannot be helped. My heart feels strange. I hope he sleeps in peace."
Born in 1984, Jerry K graduated from Seoul National University's Department of Communication and Information and debuted in 2001 in the rap duo with his high school classmate rapper Maixenss. He later was an original member of hip-hop crew Soul Company, and after releasing his first album he worked at a card company before leaving in 2011 to devote himself to music again.
After Soul Company disbanded, he founded the independent label "Daze Alive Music" and in August 2014 released the track "Stay Strong," included on his third album, conveying his feelings about the Sewol ferry sinking, and in September he released "It's all lies," criticizing irresponsible journalists.
Jerry K, who married in 2015 and started a family, revealed that he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent surgery in May 2024. He vowed to recover, saying, "I still don't know what this is all about, but I hope that even if it's little by little I can get better. Please think of me sometimes. Thank you," but sadly he passed away at the young age of 42.
