Actor Kwon Oh-jung reveals the recent condition of his son with a rare disease who debuted as a painter.
On the April 29 broadcast at 7:40 p.m. on KBS1's Hwang Shin-hye's Let's Live Together, Kwon Oh-jung met single moms at a fishing spot.
Kwon Oh-jung, a "scene-stealer" actor who has shown a strong presence across serious dramas and sitcoms, is well known as a father who always puts his family first and a devoted husband. That day, Hwang Shin-hye and Kwon Oh-jung shared an especially warm reunion, and their relationship began 22 years ago when they played siblings in the drama Cheonsaengyeonbun.
Hwang Shin-hye called Kwon Oh-jung "a person I can never forget," and she recounted how deeply moved she was by his sincerity in staying by her side until the end at her father's funeral. Kwon Oh-jung then spoke of marrying a wife six years his senior and starting married life at a young age. He revealed that although they had difficulties in their marriage, he had concentrated on spending time with his family for a while to resolve them, showing his unchanged family-oriented side.
Hwang Shin-hye prepared a romantic, healing countryside stay for Kwon Oh-jung. While chatting at the country house, Kwon Oh-jung revealed he is a kung fu black belt and said he once won first place at a national dance competition with a dance that incorporated kung fu. He also surprised everyone by revealing he participated in choreography work for Seo Taiji and i-dle. Requests for him to dance followed, and Hwang Shin-hye praised his passionate performance, saying, "You are truly a master."
After meal preparations began, situations unfolded where nothing ran smoothly without his help, from lighting the fire to chopping firewood. Soon crowned a "jack-of-all-trades," Kwon Oh-jung displayed top-level cooking skills befitting a Korean cuisine cooking technician and, together with the single moms, laid out a generous country meal.
That day Kwon Oh-jung also revealed his final wish. He drew attention by revealing the recent condition of his son, who has a rare developmental disorder so uncommon that it does not even have a name.
He said his son, who had an interest in art, recently received a strong response for his paintings, which led to sales and even invitations to exhibit overseas, and the proud father expressed his pride.
Meanwhile, he recounted his son's past, when the son suffered severe school violence during his school years, and tearfully expressed the wish, "I want to see my son living an ordinary life." The three single moms empathized with tears and offered heartfelt support.
Earlier it was reported that Kwon Oh-jung's son has a rare disease experienced by only 15 people worldwide. He said, "In 2017 my son was the first to be diagnosed in Korea. Now I heard one or two more have been found," and added, "When you watch the news they say, 'a $3 billion injection came out'—those are all genetic diseases. Gene therapy is happening now. But the development is focused on things that at least have some demand. And that amount is about $3 billion to $5 billion. One shot would be enough.. One professor said, 'I'll try to develop it,' but even if development starts now it will take several years. I hope Hyuk-jun gets treated before we get much older," expressing his desperate feelings.
