Nokiinok and Sanmanhan Siseon were selected as "Hello Rookie of May."
The domestic flagship new musician discovery project EBS "Hello Rookie" successfully completed its first preliminary stage and selected two teams as "Hello Rookie of May."
At the performance held at 7 p.m. on April 23 in the UNDERSTAGE by Hyundai Card in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, 10 teams selected through a music review out of a total of 952 applicants took the stage and engaged in fierce live competition.
That day's preliminary stage was hosted by singer-songwriter Car, the garden, who led the atmosphere on site with a steady presentation, and a total of 10 teams — 64ksana, Confined White (Confined White), Hans', Kikuhashi, Nokiinok, Sanmanhansiseon, Sun Town Girls, Oysters, Woo Hee-jun, and Yuinwon — participated, each showcasing distinct personalities and musical worlds.
As a result of judging, Nokiinok and Sanmanhansiseon were finally selected as "Hello Rookie of May." Post-rock band Nokiinok was praised for its band sound that stood out based on sensual sound and delicate sensibility, receiving high marks for its passionate performance and immersive stage. Folk duo Sanmanhansiseon left a strong impression with a stage that highlighted distinctive sensitivity, delicate narrative delivery, and fresh energy.
Chief judge Park Jeong-yong said, "Jang Kiha, Silica Gel, and HANRORO were unfamiliar at first," and added, "What is new today eventually becomes the standard of the next era. I hope you continue your own music," conveying a message of support to the participating teams.
Launched in 2007, EBS "Hello Rookie" has produced groups and artists such as Guckkasten, Jang Kiha and the Faces, Silica Gel, and HANRORO, and has established itself as a representative gateway to Korea's indie music scene. "Hello Rookie," which has discovered talented newcomers and provided growth opportunities through live stages, is regarded as a domestic platform supporting new artists in the music ecosystem. Proving strong interest as it reopened after four years, a total of 952 teams applied in the first recruitment.
