(Continued from Interview ③) YouTuber Choi Gogi (real name Choi Beom-gyu) offered sincere support to his ex-wife Yu Kkaet-ip (real name Yu Ye-rin).
Choi Gogi met with OSEN for an interview at a cafe in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, on the 25th.
Earlier, Choi Gogi and Yu Kkaet-ip appeared on the recently aired TV CHOSUN 'X's private life' and revealed how they each sought new relationships after their divorce, receiving much support. At the time, Choi Gogi revealed his girlfriend Lee Joo-eun, whom he has been dating for five years, and Yu Kkaet-ip revealed her boyfriend Ji Chang-ho, whom she has been dating for four months.
After the broadcast, Yu Kkaet-ip posted on her social account, "I wanted to show that divorce is not a failure in life but another beginning to find each person's happiness." In response, Choi Gogi said frankly, "That's right. Actually, I realized a lot thanks to Ms. Kkaet-ip. Sometimes I think, even if I had come to my senses then, would I have stayed with Ms. Kkaet-ip until the end? But that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems each person has the right match."
He explained, "It applies to conversations and such, and our personalities are different. There are mismatched parts. It seems to be a difference in each person's disposition," adding, "I think Ms. Kkaet-ip is truly a good person. She didn't suit me, and I was just greedy at the time."
Especially regarding Yu Kkaet-ip's heartfelt wish on behalf of her and Lee Joo-eun that "I hope you're happy," Choi Gogi said, "Me too. I also hope Ms. Kkaet-ip does well. Really. I hope she makes a lot of money. She said that at the very end of the show. She said she hoped to be happy and not be depressed, and I think that's important. Isn't she Sol-ip's mother? As Sol-ip's mother, I have a big wish that she earn money diligently and show Sol-ip a cool side of herself."
He said, "So even though we divorced, nagging comes out on its own. She will manage well, but there are areas she could do better, and she is quite easygoing. From my perspective, I always feel sorry when I see it. 'You could do more,' 'You could make more money,' 'If you tried a little harder you could do better'—seeing those things makes me feel sorry," and he added, "Those things must have been a big burden, but without them there wouldn't be the Ms. Kkaet-ip we see now. She learned and has been working hard on YouTube."
Choi Gogi said, "Actually, most people don't get along well after a divorce. I also grew up in a divorced family and my mother and father didn't get along. I always thought I shouldn't be like that. To be honest, I also harbored dislike toward Ms. Kkaet-ip in my heart. As I changed that feeling, I told Sol-ip a lot that 'I hope mom does better.' There were times when I had bad feelings too. At such times a person can become really mean. I didn't want to pass on that mean feeling to Sol-ip in advance."
To that end he said, "I think you have to try extremely hard," and added, "Ms. Kkaet-ip says I can always contact her whenever I want to see her. I hope she comes by often. It's not burdensome. I used to worry. I worried when Sol-ip went somewhere, but now I want to see her often and also have free time. Ms. Kkaet-ip recently seems very busy working part-time at a cafe. I hope I can take her anytime and make lots of memories. Maybe because Sol-ip had no memories with her mother after the divorce, she wants to see her more. I hope they make time to go to amusement parks or pools and so on," he said candidly.
