Singer Dylan Carter (24), a former contestant on the popular U.S. audition show The Voice, died in an unexpected traffic accident, and tragic details from the scene of the crash have emerged, leaving fans heartbroken.
On the 27th (local time), according to foreign outlets including the Daily Mail and Page Six, Dylan Carter lost control and left the road on a state highway near Smoaks, South Carolina, while driving his 2026-model Tesla sedan at around 11:22 p.m. last Saturday.
Local police said Carter's vehicle struck a curb, then hit a utility pole and a fence in succession before overturning. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, found Carter inside the vehicle and rushed him to the hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, no vehicle fire occurred, but the car was so mangled that its shape was unrecognizable, conveying the horrific impact of the crash.
What makes Dylan Carter's death especially tragic is the deep filial devotion he had shown. When he appeared on season 24 of The Voice in 2023, he honored his mother, who died in 2022, by singing Whitney Houston's I Look to You and won the unanimous choice of the judges.
At the time, judge Reba McEntire cried at his heartfelt performance and praised him, saying, Your song touched people's hearts. That is why you came into this world. Carter also called Reba a "motherlike warm presence" and followed her, so his sudden death has struck his musical peers and fans even harder.
Carter was not only active as a singer but also a "young entrepreneur" who led community service. He co-founded and ran the nonprofit The Local Voice, which helps breast cancer patients, and worked as a real estate agent and campground operator, living an earnest life.
The organization he founded mourned, saying, Dylan was the heart of what we do. His smile and music brought people together, and we find comfort in believing he is embracing the mother he missed so much in heaven.
His final performance, originally scheduled to take the stage at a local festival, was ultimately canceled.
