YouTuber Choegogi (real name Choi Beom-gyu) and Lee Joo-eun will hold their wedding sometime this year.
Choegogi met with OSEN at a cafe in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, on the 25th and gave an interview.
Earlier, Choegogi appeared on the recently aired TV CHOSUN variety show "X's private life" and revealed his girlfriend Lee Joo-eun, who is three years younger and has been dating him for five years. On the show, Choegogi met and talked with Lee Joo-eun's second older sister, and when he expressed concern about whether her father would allow the relationship, he said, "If it doesn't work, I'm confident I'll do anything, even kneel and beg," expressing his resolve.
When asked whether he had received permission from Lee Joo-eun's parents, Choegogi explained, "Younger older sisters are often more open. Our younger sister is open, and the older sister, being the eldest, is resolute and has patriarchal aspects. So I met the younger sister first. The younger sister also has a baby, so we became close while hanging out as friends and had a lot of fun. She also helped with the show appearance."
He continued, "I wasn't able to meet her mother and father, but I always spoke with her mother by phone. Before the show aired, I thought I should go to Jeju to greet them, so I went. Joo-eun and all the family were intimidated by her father. I still told them, 'I'm a man, and from raising a daughter's perspective I understand. He'll definitely be shocked, but just trust me,' and went," and recalled the difficult journey to gaining permission, saying, "When I actually went it was very hard. There were many spectacular things." After Choegogi mentioned that he has a daughter from a previous marriage, the atmosphere reportedly turned sharply cold.
But the next day he had another chance to meet the father-in-law alone, and he explained, "It was 11 o'clock then, but I had a 1 p.m. flight. Even though I had work, I called right away, postponed the work, changed my flight to the evening and went to see her father and mother again." He said he conveyed his sincere feelings at the second meeting and succeeded in gaining their approval.
Choegogi, who said he was soon invited to a family gathering in Pyeongtaek, breathed a sigh of relief, saying, "If I had just hopped on the plane and come halfheartedly, it would have been over." He added with joy, "Being invited to the family gathering already feels like being part of the family. Now when they watch the show they call me 'Choi husband.'"
In particular, on the show "X's private life" Choegogi gave Lee Joo-eun a ring and proposed. When asked about reactions after the broadcast, Choegogi said, "Everyone reacted very positively. They only praise Joo-eun. She really is a great girlfriend," and expressed confidence, saying, "This time without stumbling. I think it will really go all the way."
On wedding plans, he said, "We're already trying to set a date. We'll probably do it in Jeju. Weddings in Jeju are different. Here they finish in one or two hours, but in Jeju they do it all day. I guess that's the rule. I don't think I can invite many of my friends, so we'll probably invite just (Lee Joo-eun's side) and have fun."
The wedding is scheduled to take place sometime this year. Choegogi said, "I think we'll get married this year. I think it will proceed quickly. Many people worry, but they are all good people," and emphasized, "My father also met (Lee Joo-eun) a lot. My father isn't a scary person. He said there was mother-in-law and daughter-in-law conflict with [Youkkaetip], but it wasn't that big. He doesn't show it, but these days they contact and communicate a lot." He said they plan to live in Jeju or Busan, Lee Joo-eun's hometown, after the wedding.
