Rapper Jerry.K (real name Kim Jin-il) died after battling a malignant brain tumor for two years.
According to his family on the 27th, Jerry.K died that day after about two years of fighting glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor. He was 42.
Music critic Kang Il-kwon posted the news of Jerry.K's death on his social media, saying, "I heard he was battling a brain tumor, but a sudden death cannot be helped. My heart feels strange. I hope he rests in peace," and expressed his condolences.
Born in 1984, Jerry.K graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in media and communications. In 2001 he debuted in the rap duo Lo?se? with high school classmate and rapper Maiksense. He later was an original member of the hip-hop crew Soul Company, and after releasing his first album he worked at a card company before leaving in 2011 to focus on music again.
After Soul Company disbanded, he established the independent label "Daze Alive Music" and continued his critical perspective on reality, exposing various facets of Korean society. In August 2014 he released "Stay Strong," a track from his third album expressing his feelings about the Sewol ferry sinking, and in September he released "Everything's a lie," criticizing irresponsible journalists.
Jerry.K, who married in 2015 and started a family, revealed in May 2024 that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and had surgery. He vowed to recover, saying, "I still don't know what all this is, but I hope it gets even a little better. Please think of me sometimes. Thank you."
But Jerry.K could not overcome the malignant brain tumor and became a star in the sky. Fans left messages of condolence on his final post such as "Rest in peace," "My heart feels bad," and "I hope you are comfortable there."
Jerry.K's funeral hall was set up at Severance Hospital funeral hall. The funeral procession will be held at 9:20 a.m. on the 29th, and the burial site is Gonggam Arboretum.
