The group TWS has finished preparing to captivate fans around the world with candid, bold confessions.
TWS held a showcase on the afternoon of the 27th at YES24 Live Hall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the release of the fifth minialbum "NO TRAGEDY" and talked about the new album.
TWS, who announced their comeback after six months following the release of the fourth minialbum play hard last October, showed strong popularity by recording 1.16 million preorders (as of April 24) ahead of the new release.
Regarding this, Shin Yu said, "I remember that when we heard this news the members were surprised and happy. I think 1 million copies are not just a number but motivation given by fans, and we will become TWS that works even harder."
TWS's new album "NO TRAGEDY" portrays TWS completing love proactively rather than waiting for a predetermined fate. Every track on the album is TWS's bold and candid confession of "youthful Romeo," offering a glimpse of six boys' "direct romance" who rush toward love.
Jihoon said, "While preparing this album I spent a lot of time thinking about how to show a fresh side while maintaining TWS's existing image. Fortunately, we were able to challenge genres based on various styles in this album. I think listeners will enjoy listening to every track," expressing confidence.
Then Kyungmin said, "This is the first album we are presenting since becoming adults, and since all members are now adults I think we will be able to show various sides going forward," and Youngjae said, "Through this album I want to show an active, proactive, self-directed side that fights for love. I hope everyone listens to this song and has a bright, lively, energetic spring."
Asked why they were inspired by the tragedy Romeo and Juliet, they replied, "The difference with TWS's title is that we reach a happy ending. I thought it was similar because Romeo's way of approaching love resembled ours."
In particular, TWS expanded their musical spectrum on this album by encompassing diverse song styles such as house, R&B, boom-bap hip-hop, punk and rock, and attempted vocalizations and techniques they had not shown before. In addition, Dohoon, Youngjae, Hanjin and Jihoon participated in writing lyrics themselves, proving their capabilities.
Hanjin said, "I participated in writing lyrics for this album, and while writing I considered how to best capture our team's color. There are parts written with fans in mind, so I ask for a lot of interest."
Youngjae said, "In previous TWS activities we showed fresh, youthful energy, but this time I wanted to show a straightforward, bold freshness expressed candidly. I want to show that freshness can be viewed from various perspectives."
Kyungmin also said, "This album is personally a great challenge. Youngjae hyung and I participated in the guide for the first time. We researched a lot and worked with an excited heart. Since the songs on this album are all different genres, we researched a lot to give different styles."
The title track "I follow you (You, You)" depicts TWS deeply in love and bluntly confesses feelings toward someone who reminds them of a happy past dream. A house sound infused with R&B sensibility, a groovy bass and unique chord progressions combine to amplify a trendy sensibility.
Jihoon explained, "The new song depicts TWS deeply in love. This is the first time we have talked about the feeling of love so directly. So the members discussed in the practice room what love might be and tried to define it. We found that answer through the fans' gazes when looking at the stage. I think this song expresses the feeling of love experienced in everyday life in TWS's own way."
Dohoon, who participated in writing lyrics, said, "I watched romance films suitable for the subject and imagined emotions and actions while writing the lyrics," adding, "When I first heard the title track, the hook section left an impression. It's addictive and I think the general public will really like it," showing confidence.
Now entering their third year, TWS said, "As we enter our third year, we think our expressions on stage have become more diverse and free. The members have started exercising, so you will be able to see a more mature side."
Also, TWS, who have insisted on a refreshing concept since debut, said, "We worry about the musical color of freshness, but nonetheless we are focusing on the message and expanding the boyhood pop spectrum. We want to show more colors."
Finally, TWS said of this promotion, "It is an honor to be making a comeback alongside many senior and junior artists, and we are glad there are things we can learn. We will work hard to fiercely show our charms," and conveyed the hope, "We want to perform at stadiums in the future. We want to have fun with fans in a big arena."
