The group NEXZ returned with an upgraded performance.
NEXZ held a showcase celebrating the release of their second single 'Mmchk' at the Bluesquare Woori WON Banking Hall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 27th and talked about the new album.
After the mini album Beat-Boxer in October last year, NEXZ returned with a new release six months later and said, "after our global debut in May 2024, it's been two years since we held a showcase. We're nervous and excited, but we prepared the new album stage hard, so please look forward to it," expressing their comeback feelings.
NEXZ's new album Mmchk is a manifesto that asserts their distinctive presence. It's a newly coined term that represents NEXZ's attitude, which is hard to define by existing frameworks, and expresses the cool charm of the seven members who choose what they like and are drawn to in each moment rather than fixed standards and enjoy it without regret.
Tomoya said of the new release, "instead of a fixed framework, it contains a confident sense of pride to act and enjoy freely by our own standards."
Members Tomoya, Huey and Yuki participated in the songwriting, demonstrating their capabilities. Yuki explained, "I'm grateful to have participated in the songwriting process. Last time on our previous album we all wrote lyrics together; back then each of us tried writing individually, then we took good parts from those, combined and revised them to make one piece, and we worked in a similar way this time."
Huey added, "most of our members are Japanese, so writing lyrics in Korean has difficult parts. But no matter how hard it was, we wanted to include our thoughts and messages in the songs, so we worked hard looking things up in dictionaries."
The new song Mmchk properly showcases NEXZ's sense of freedom; it's a dance track based on bass house with cheerful rap and an addictive beat that leave an impression.
Huey explained, "'Mmchk' is a newly coined term meaning NEXZ's attitude, which is hard to define by existing frameworks. It's like my way, moving in one's own manner without being conscious of others' gaze. We also tend to enjoy without regret. I think that kind of image can be described as NEXZ's own way."
With their second debut anniversary approaching in May, NEXZ said, "it's already our second anniversary and it doesn't feel real; the memories of our debut are still vivid. We've experienced a lot and worked hard, and starting with 'Mmchk' we'll work hard to let more people know about us."
Especially, Yuu, who celebrated a birthday that day, said, "this is the first time for this, so it feels amazing. I'm happy to be able to meet fans through the showcase later, and my family is coming. It's been a long time since I spent a birthday with my family, so I'm looking forward to it."
NEXZ, who have been dubbed "JYP's new generation," replied, "we like all the nicknames given to us with affection, and being called JYP's new generation is a nickname we truly want to hear, so we're grateful just to hear it. We're working with the intention of becoming a group that matches that nickname."
Also, amid the recent comeback rush of many groups, Sogen said, "many senior artists and many artists are making comebacks, and when we thought about joining them and coming back together, I personally felt a bit of pressure wondering if we could do well, but we prepared hard with the mindset of showing exactly the practice and experience NEXZ has had so far. During preparation, excitement rose more than worry. We hope you pay attention to our confidence and how we enjoy the stage."
Finally, regarding the goal of this promotion, Seita said, "the goal this time is to receive much more love and attention than before. Also, we've never achieved first place on music shows, so I really want to do that during this promotion."
