"national MC" Yu Jae-seok crawled on the floor on Hangout With Yoo. His literal self-sacrifice delivered big laughs.
The Hangout With Yoo episode that aired on the evening of the 25th, titled "War of Money in Tongyeong," featured fixed Hangout members Yu Jae-seok, HaHa, Heo Kyunghwan, and Joo Woo-jae visiting Tongyeong with "Gimhae crown prince" Yang Sang-guk.
The "War of Money" series began with the Seoul episode, the 319th episode of Hangout With Yoo, which aired on Feb. 28, and after the 321st episode in Gimhae that aired on the 21st of last month, it reached Tongyeong as the third installment. Following the first "War of Money," Heo Kyunghwan firmly established himself as a fixed member, and Yang Sang-guk played a major role, even taking on the "Gimhae crown prince" character, creating a family-like atmosphere. As a result, the third "War of Money" Tongyeong episode drew attention and buzz from the filming stage onward.
Moreover, Tongyeong was Heo Kyunghwan's hometown. As a fixed member of Hangout, Heo Kyunghwan, who became Tongyeong's comet, Tongyeong's son, and Tongyeong's star, proudly volunteered to introduce his hometown with plenty of hometown affection and pride.
The crowds gathered in places like the market instead laughed toward Yang Sang-guk, shouting "Yo-ye!" and cheered and sought handshakes for "national MC" Yu Jae-seok, making Heo Kyunghwan seem sidelined and adding to the humor. To recover some honor, Heo Kyunghwan introduced regular restaurants where you can only eat Tongyeong specialties such as ujjah and bbaettaegi porridge, and barely regained his standing.
But before the "War of Money," all fame was useless. For the members who traveled four hours and 30 minutes from Seoul to Tongyeong, Heo Kyunghwan prepaid for everything from the Tongyeong cable car to snacks and kart racing. He even lost dozens of travel expenses of about 300,000 won when he finished overwhelmingly in last place in kart racing and could not get the money back. Faced with accumulating payment history, he became desperate not to pay for the last meal.
Because the last meal was at a seafood restaurant famous in Tongyeong, everyone struggled to avoid paying. Even before the menu arrived, there was a fierce game of one-upmanship over who would go to the bathroom. Inland native Yang Sang-guk fell for the abalone butter grill and devoured three plates in no time, pushing the total bill to 210,000 won and intensifying the competition to avoid paying.
Among them, Yu Jae-seok was even more intense, having been betrayed by his younger brothers earlier. At one point, after finishing his meal, he left his seat saying he was going to the bathroom, then lay face down in front of the restaurant door and began to crawl low along the floor. The moment the undisputed No. 1 in variety brand reputation, "national MC" Yu Jae-seok, crawled on the floor delivered both shock and laughter.
The younger members did not stay still either. Quick-witted Joo Woo-jae kept watching Yu Jae-seok with suspicion and finally followed him to the bathroom, finding Yu Jae-seok lying face down at the restaurant door trying to avoid paying. Moreover, he lightly stepped on Yu Jae-seok's back saying, "Hyungnim, where are you?" which sent viewers into peals of laughter. The younger members who belatedly discovered Yu Jae-seok crawling on the floor were shocked. HaHa quipped, "I thought hyungnim was doing a 'Shawshank Redemption' act," adding to the astonishment.
In the end, after a bottle cap toss, Yang Sang-guk skillfully hit Joo Woo-jae's bottle cap perched at the edge of the table and knocked it off, breaking Joo Woo-jae's "no spending" streak and forcing him to make the first payment, thus ending the meal payment bet. In the process, the Tongyeong installment of the "War of Money," which even made the great Yu Jae-seok crawl on the floor, delivered laughs until the end.
