Actor Song Hyekyo, Lee Jong-suk, Ko Jun-hee, and even Seolhyun. The identity of the "legendary audition" that produced top stars of the era, just by name alone, is revealed.
The final episode of TV CHOSUN's Modern Figures Mr. Lee, airing today (26) at 9 p.m., reveals the history of the textile industry, which laid the foundation for Korea's industrialization, and the fascinating behind-the-scenes stories of chaebol families hidden within it.
The most eye-catching passage in the episode is the "school uniform model selection contest," known as the gateway for top stars. Seonkyung Textiles, the predecessor of today's SK Group, held a large-scale model selection contest through the school uniform brand "Smart," which is said to have acted as a star factory that produced Song Hyekyo and Lee Jong-suk, surprising many. In particular, the rivalry between Samsung Cheil Industries' "Elite" and Seonkyung's "Smart" reached the pinnacle of star marketing beyond the school uniform market. In the process, a surprise reveal of MC Lee Kyung-kyu's fresh middle school uniform photo is also scheduled.
The unusual "wool fabric love" of Samsung founder Lee Byung-chul is also reexamined. Lee's passion for fabrics, obsessive enough that he was called "Mr. Pure Wool" in his youth, continued into the Lee Kun-hee era with the launch of brands such as "Galaxy" and "Beanpole." Lee Kyung-kyu said, "About 10 years ago I met Lee Kun-hee at a restaurant in Gangnam," and recounted a vivid eyewitness account that the clothes Lee Kun-hee was wearing at the time seemed to be from that brand, which reportedly surprised the cast.
The little-known story that SK Group, now a global company, began as a small textile firm is also spotlighted. The program digs into how Seonkyung Textiles, led by founders Chey Jong-gun and chairman Chey Jong-hyun, could become today's SK covering semiconductors and communications, examining the decisive moments together with chaebol commentator Hong Seong-chu.
