KBS announcer Um Ji-in said she plans to give 50,000 won as a wedding gift for Nam Hyun-jong, prompting anger from Jun Hyun-moo and Kim Sook.
On the episode of KBS 2TV's 'The CEO's ears are donkey ears' airing on the 26th (directed by Choi Seung-hee, hereafter "Sadanggwi"), Um Ji-in declared, "Hyunjong plans to give 50,000 won as a wedding gift," igniting a debate over wedding gifts.
Nam Hyun-jong is Um Ji-in's direct junior and they appear on broadcasts together regularly. Um Ji-in had so carefully looked after him that she even helped look for wedding halls ahead of Nam Hyun-jong's wedding preparation. Yet she said Nam Hyun-jong's wedding gift would be 50,000 won, causing the studio to stir. Um Ji-in gave a reason for setting it at 50,000 won, saying, "Hyunjong didn't come to my wedding," offering a justified basis. She then added an implicit standard, saying, "The appropriate wedding gift among colleagues at our company is 50,000 won."
Park Myung Soo countered, "Even so, food costs these days start at 100,000 won as a basic amount, so you should give at least 200,000 won," and Jun Hyun-moo said, "Because Um Ji-in has on-screen chemistry with Hyunjong, she should give 300,000 won," suggesting a reasonable amount considering his friendship with Nam Hyun-jong. In response, Um Ji-in said, "I've never seen anyone at our company give 300,000 won. If you give 300,000 won, people call and ask, 'Did you put it in by mistake?'" sparking a heated debate about the appropriate wedding gift amount among company colleagues.
Meanwhile, Kim Sook revealed the standard for close friends' wedding gifts, startling everyone. Kim Sook said, "The wedding gift for a close friend is absolutely 10 million won," and added, "But my close friends Song Eun I, Lee Young-ja, Choi Hwa-jung, and Choi Kang-hee haven't married, so the wedding gift fund is locked up," and with a pleased smile said, "I want to repay the favor, so hurry up and get married," causing laughter.
