"Shin Irang" can Yoo Yeon-seok clear up the misunderstanding about his dead father?
SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Shin Irang law office' Yoo Yeon-seok finally faces his greatest life task, his father Choi Won-young, as a corpse, foreshadowing a tumultuous development.
SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Shin Irang law office' (directed by Shin Jung-hoon, written by Kim Ga-young·Kang Cheol-gyu, produced by StudioS·Mongjakso) in the last broadcast Shin Irang (Yoo Yeon-seok) was confronted with a harsh truth that shakes his righteous beliefs. From his client and the victim father in the "yellow rain boots" case, Yoon Jae-wook (Ko Sang-ho), he poured out anger, saying that in the past prosecutor Shin Ki-jung (Choi Won-young) was the corrupt mastermind who drove his father to death. Wanting to believe his childhood memory of his father as a good prosecutor who punished bad people, Shin Irang became a lawyer and, for the first time, faced Shin Ki-jung's corruption through the victim's testimony. And the reality of the perpetrator father brought an unbearable sense of betrayal and shock.
With his trust in his father shattered so completely, in episode 14 airing tonight (25) at 9:50 p.m., a startling reunion is depicted in which the father, Shin Ki-jung, appears having completely washed away his memories of life and the son, Shin Irang, grabs the back of his neck as soon as he sees him. The preview video begins by showing Shin Irang's deep-rooted trauma. The child Shin Irang in the nightmare suffers pressure from reporters at the funeral home bathing him in flashbulbs asking, "Please say a few words," and falls into despair surrounded by slurs written all over school desks and the blackboard such as "Shin Irang's dad is a criminal," "dirty smell," and "get out of our school."
Sweating cold, Shin Irang wakes up and the reality he faces is even more shocking. He meets his father's eyes looking down at him calmly. Shin Ki-jung, seemingly unaware of his son's pain, smiles like a scholar and says, "I was worried because you tossed and turned all night, so I checked on you," and an enraged Shin Irang shouts, "There's a ghost staring with both eyes wide open—how can you sleep so soundly? Please go somewhere you won't be seen."
But the corpse Shin Ki-jung, who cannot remember his life until he knows his name and birthdate, rather asks back, "Do you happen to know who I am?" Shin Irang, angered by learning of his father's past corruption, and Shin Ki-jung, who knows nothing and lectures his son, "Legal professionals must beware of prejudice." How this "bittersweet" father-son relationship will be resolved, and whether another truth yet unrevealed lurks behind the stigma of a "corrupt prosecutor," is driving viewers' desire to watch the broadcast live.
The production team explained, "Episode 14 is the episode in which Shin Irang, as a lawyer and as Shin Ki-jung's son, confronts his roots head-on," and hinted, "Yoo Yeon-seok's harrowing performance and Choi Won-young's corpse acting will create an all-time chemistry," raising expectations.
