I Live Alone recorded a ratings increase as actor Ku Sung-hwan and his companion dog Kkot-bun said their final goodbyes, and singer-actor IU confessed the recent death of her maternal grandfather.
According to ratings firm Nielsen Korea on the 25th, the 644th episode of the MBC variety show I Live Alone, which aired on the 24th, recorded a nationwide household rating of 5.6%. That is a 0.5 percentage point rise from last week's 5.1%. Also that day, I Live Alone's household rating peaked at 6.3% at its highest minute. The 20-54 rating also recorded 3%, the highest among variety shows aired that day.
The show's "best minute" was created by Ku Sung-hwan. Earlier, Ku Sung-hwan had revealed a journey in which he completed a 446 km national march over 16 nights and 17 days on I Live Alone. At his final destination in Gwangalli, Busan, he called out to his deceased companion dog Kkot-bun and shed tears. Ku Sung-hwan's choked-up cry of Kkot-bun, "Did you go well?" moved viewers to tears. That moment produced the highest minute rating of 6.3%.
Sitting down on the sandy beach, taking in the sea with both eyes and looking at photos of Kkot-bun, Ku Sung-hwan offered a tearful farewell that moved viewers. Kkot-bun, a dog like a daughter, had been with him for 11 years. Reflecting on the two months after Kkot-bun's death, Ku Sung-hwan said, "I think my emotions were all resolved at that time, so I cried. The memories were so good that I cried without realizing it," and added, "Just being able to call Kkot-bun with my own mouth has made me feel much better. I think I can remember this day forever." Above all, he left a resonant message of overcoming and hope for those who, like him, have lost a pet and suffer from pet-loss syndrome.
Meanwhile, actor Yu Su-bin revealed that she has been living alone for six years as a friend of actor Bae Na-ra. The moment she wakes up she binge-watches MBC's Infinite Challenge, and the practical layout with everything placed within reach drew both laughter and sympathy. Appearing as Yu Su-bin's close friends were singer-actor IU and actor Lee Yeon, who co-starred with her in the MBC Friday-Saturday drama Perfect Crown. Describing their relationship as like real sisters, Yu Su-bin introduced her regular restaurants and showed consideration while enjoying a cherry blossom walk along the Han River.
In particular, IU confessed that she recently suffered the death of her maternal grandfather and expressed gratitude to Yu Su-bin and Lee Yeon for visiting the funeral wake. She said, "Among my friends, they were almost the only two who came." IU's friendship with Yu Su-bin and Lee Yeon moved I Live Alone viewers as well.
