Singer Hong Seo-beom and Cho Gap-kyung's former daughter-in-law, a person surnamed A, vented her frustration immediately after the appeal hearing.
A said on the 23rd, "Does it make sense to show up to an appeal hearing without properly preparing?" and "Is it reasonable to file the claim with the wrong purpose and reason and then be unable to respond to the grounds of the opposition? Because of this, the date was pushed back another month."
She went on, "I'm really so angry that it's being delayed for such an unreasonable reason," and confessed her hardship, "Are they dragging this out so far to punish me somehow, making me exhausted?"
On that day, the family court division 1 of Daejeon Family Court resumed the appeal hearing in the damages claim lawsuit filed by a person surnamed A against Hong Seo-beom and Cho Gap-kyung's son, a person surnamed B, over the dissolution of a de facto marriage.
Earlier, a person surnamed B married A in 2024 but separated after about eight months. A alleges B's infidelity as the cause of the breakup.
The trial court found a person surnamed B responsible for the dissolution of the de facto marriage and ordered him to pay 30 million won in consolation money and 800,000 won per month in child support until the child reaches adulthood. However, a person surnamed B appealed, saying the consolation money and child support are insufficient.
Meanwhile, Hong Seo-beom and Cho Gap-kyung said in a statement, "We did not intervene in the divorce process on the grounds of respecting our adult son's privacy and autonomy," and "As parents, we deeply reflect on our failure to closely watch our child's mistakes." They added, "We also sincerely apologize for failing to set an example as public figures."
They also said, "Although the appeal is ongoing, we will strictly guide that the consolation money and child support under the first trial ruling be promptly carried out through our son's legal representatives," outlining their future response plan.
