Singer Yu Seung-jun has drawn attention by revealing, after a year, the story of meeting Korean fans in Los Angeles.
On the 23rd, Yu Seung-jun posted a video titled "What happens when Yu Seung-jun suddenly appears on Taejin-ah's stage. A reaction no one expected" on his personal YouTube channel. The video drew attention by showing how Yu Seung-jun attended Taejin-ah's overseas performance last year.
Taejin-ah held a solo concert on April 26 last year at a venue located in the Yamaba Casino Resort in Los Angeles, California, U.S. The event was arranged for overseas residents and fans of Korean pop music. Yu Seung-jun, who had been invited to this event, released the video after a year.
While riding in the car to see the concert, Yu Seung-jun showed excitement, saying, "I'll greet our teacher Taejin-ah after a long time," and captured scenes such as the casino electronic billboard announcing Taejin-ah's concert.
During the concert, Taejin-ah personally introduced Yu Seung-jun. He introduced him to the audience, saying, "When this singer first appeared, I told him, 'You will become a big singer, so never give up and keep pushing forward.' The singer Yu Seung-jun, who lives in LA, is here."
In response, Yu Seung-jun stood up from his seat and bowed to greet the audience present. Since Taejin-ah is a trot singer, most of the audience gathered there were middle-aged and older. Yu Seung-jun wiped away tears as if choked up by the cheering elderly audience. The electronic billboard showing Yu Seung-jun smiling brightly and greeting elicited even greater cheers.
Even after the greetings ended, fans swarmed. There were staff and audience members who wanted to take photos with Yu Seung-jun, as well as elderly fans getting his autograph. There were many reactions supporting Yu Seung-jun, who cannot return to Korea, including patting his shoulder and giving thumbs up. In particular, an elderly fan with a head full of white hair cheered Yu Seung-jun, saying, "You still can't go to Korea? It's been 50 years since I came here. Every time I see you, my heart hurts so much."
Yu Seung-jun debuted as a singer in Korea in 1997 and received great love. However, after receiving a call-up notice for public service duty, he left the country in January 2002 for an overseas performance and acquired U.S. citizenship. As a result, he was accused of evading military service and has been restricted from entering Korea since 2002.
In 2015, Yu Seung-jun applied for an overseas Korean national visa at the Los Angeles consulate general but was denied. After he filed a lawsuit over this, the court ruled in his favor twice. However, the Los Angeles consulate general also denied a third visa issuance. Yu Seung-jun's third lawsuit is currently underway.
