"Perfect Crown" solidifies rising ratings with a binge-watch lineup.
On Apr. 23, a representative for the MBC Fri.-Sat. drama Perfect Crown told OSEN, "On May 1, episodes 1 through 6 will be specially scheduled as a binge-watch ahead of the live broadcast of episode 7 of Perfect Crown," the outlet reported.
Perfect Crown is a drama set in 21st-century constitutional monarchy Korea that depicts a status-breaking romance about a woman who is a chaebol with everything but is merely a commoner and therefore irritated, and a prince who is sad because he cannot have anything; singer and actor IU plays Seong Hee-joo, a chaebol who is a commoner, and actor Byeon Woo-seok plays Grand Prince Ian, Yi Wan, a prince who can have nothing except his status.
Thanks to the meeting of IU and Byeon Woo-seok, two top stars, Perfect Crown set an unusual record of ranking first in buzz even before it aired. After broadcast it continued to rank first in buzz for two consecutive weeks, boasting overwhelming interest. The recently aired episode 4 recorded a nationwide household rating of 11.1% (Nielsen Korea), showing double-digit ratings.
Meanwhile, broadcaster MBC appears to be scheduling a binge-watch of Perfect Crown to not only continue the upward ratings trend but to cement double-digit ratings. Episodes through No. 6, which will air through Apr. 25, will be scheduled as a binge-watch ahead of the live broadcast of episode 7 on Labor Day, May 1, to secure regular viewers.
Perfect Crown is composed of a total of 12 episodes, and with episode 6 marking the halfway turn, the broadcaster is attempting a more agile schedule for the second half. This raises curiosity about whether the strong interest in Perfect Crown will continue to grow after the binge-watch scheduling.
