'You Quiz on the Block' actor Moon Geun-young, in her 28th year of acting, shared hopes for the rest of her life.
On the 22nd episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' (hereafter 'You Quiz'), actor Moon Geun-young appeared after a long time. Yu Jae-seok and Moon Geun-young greeted each other warmly. Even 20 years ago, when they still reigned as the nation's MC and nation's younger sister, they seemed as if they had met just yesterday. Meeting again after 14 years, they were overjoyed.
Moon Geun-young said, "My concern is that I enjoy eating so much that I've gained weight, so dieting is a concern. Lately I've been strict with my diet, and performances make me use my body a lot. So I'm moving my body through performing," and updated fans on her recent condition. In the play 'Orphans', Moon Geun-young took on the role of a detective and attempted an acting transformation with coarse cursing and a tough persona.
Moon Geun-young said, "In this play I'm very tough and cursing a lot. I need to come out with a certain snap, but I don't usually swear much," and added, "In the first rehearsal, actor Kim Ju-yeon said, 'Sister, you haven't tried cursing, right? When you say 'sik' of 'sikppang' (bread), you must put into that 'sik' all the dirty energy in the world.' So now I attach 'sikppang' to the end of my words in everyday speech," which made people laugh.
Nine years ago, Moon Geun-young was suddenly diagnosed with acute compartment syndrome and underwent surgery. It is a condition in which pressure on the fascia cuts off blood flow, and it can be life-threatening, potentially leading to necrosis. After four surgeries and rehabilitation, Moon Geun-young tasted frustration when she could not move her fingers and thought she might no longer be able to be an actor. She said, "I thought I wouldn't be able to use my arm."
Moon Geun-young, who still has a large scar on her arm, was matter-of-fact. Moon Geun-young said, "I didn't know the scar was this big, and because my arm could reoccur if it tightened, I had five layers of bandages. When I took off the bandages and saw the wound for the first time, I thought, 'It's serious,' and I was relieved that necrosis had not progressed. I think I cried when I was told that the finger nerves might not recover." Even so, she said, "Now I can just rest," and at the time she was only in her early 30s.
Moon Geun-young's doctor reportedly said, "You should eat everything you want to eat to get better." Moon Geun-young said, "My wish was to go to the movie theater and eat popcorn while watching a movie. I always drank water," and said she did not continue the diet she had been on for 18 years.
Looking back on her life now and looking forward, Moon Geun-young said, "In my teens I was an old soul, and in my 20s I just wished to get through life without trouble. But now that I'm in my 40s, it's okay to be a little exciting. I hope my life becomes 'eheradiya.'" She added with a relaxed face and a smile, "I'm grateful for this illness. If I hadn't hit the brakes, the high-speed train might have been thrown off. I think I stopped well without leaving the tracks. I feel like I've become a person who can enjoy whatever waves come."
