Actor Kim Jaewon becomes the male lead of the new drama "Gungeneun Gaekkot-i Sanda".
On the 23rd, OSEN reported that Kim Jaewon was recently offered the male lead character in the new drama "Gungeneun Gaekkot-i Sanda" (hereafter "Gunggaekkot"). With Park Eunbin already positively considering the female lead role, excitement is rising as Kim Jaewon has also received a love call.
"Gunggaekkot" is a work that adapts the popular web novel of the same name into a drama. The original web novel, published in 2007, was a palace romance novel that enjoyed tremendous popularity. Set in the fictional nation of Eunara's royal court, it depicts the romance between court concubine Gaeri, nicknamed "gaekkot" for her peerless beauty but savage personality, and the cold, aloof emperor Eon. Park Eunbin is expected to play court concubine Gaeri in the drama, and Kim Jaewon is expected to play emperor Eon.
In particular, immediately after news spread that the highly popular romance novel would be adapted into a drama, anticipation among the original fans soared. Meanwhile, following Park Eunbin, the addition of "the current trend" Kim Jaewon is expected to further raise interest in the production. Production is being handled by Scene&Studio, and scheduling for TV channels and OTT platforms is being discussed with all options open.
Currently, Kim Jaewon is delivering a passionate performance as Shin Sun-rok in the TVing original "Yumi's Cells" season 3. He is showing chemistry beyond expectations with Kim Go-eun and raising the drama's immersion. In its first week of release (Apr. 13–19), it ranked first in weekly paid subscriber contributors, continuing its box office momentum. In recent years, Kim Jaewon has emerged as a leading actor among men in their 20s with notable performances in "King the Land," "Hierarchy," "The Tale of Lady Ok," "You and Everything Else," and "Lady Dua."
Meanwhile, Kim Jaewon recently renewed his contract with his current agency, Mystic Story (Mystic Actors), keeping his loyalty. Although many agencies reportedly made offers, he is said to have renewed his contract based on deep trust.
